Question about people today who would've been hipsters 10 years ago

What took the place of hipsters for today people in their mid 20s or early 30s who would've been hipsters 10 years ago? I live pretty far out in the boonies and not good at keeping up with such trends.

Dressing like you are a homeless crack addict. Im not joking. at least hipsters had a style. Kids these days? Torn jean shorts, a blouse, plaid baggy shirt over that, painted nails, and used third hand vans with school girl socks. And this is a guy im describing. All of them tatted to the nines with the dumbest shite. Saw one the other day with a generic juice box tattoed on her arm. a juice box. Generic was the brand tattooed on the box. Another was legit wearing a cycling jersey, shorts, and vans. Her fixie was nowhere to be found.
Look, I dont really give a shite, you do you. I just cannot make sense of how the "hipsters of today" dress because holy shite they would all have been sent to the loony bin 40 years ago.

"hipsters" were the last healthy counter culture group meaning they had a good community and they're in their 40s today and most of them are married still and have kids and whatnot and if you compare them to the "culture" group at the time which goes in a k shape ie fratty at the top and tapout shirts at the bottom both of those groups have been divorced multiple times and are paying child support and whatnot
The hipsters were essentially the liberal middle class kids whose parents were soft office workers or occasionally college professors, the fratty ones families owned car dealerships or were c suite and the tapout crowd's parents were blue collar. I suspect every movement in america's history has essentially been like this but the hipsters got a lot of attention because of the rise of social media and nowadays society is too micronized for a single subculture to gain too much attention
I was too young for all of this but it still formed the zeitgeist in my formative years. For all the fun that got made of them, living sustainably below your means isn't a bad strategy as most of them were trying to find jobs around the 2008 crash and the way they lived stuck with them like the generation that came of age in the great depression

I think I can help here.
I was born in 1981 and from the ages 19 to approximately 33 I would’ve qualified as a hipster.
Now I’m 45 and something of a sad sack, living in a 600k house in the Utah suburbs.
I still own a Robocop t shirt.

The reason you don’t see many gen z hipsters is because they’re too poor. Millennial hipster culture was about premium craft beer, local food, chic coffee, collecting vintage vinyl and seeing obscure bands in diy venues. Zoomers straight up can’t afford it.
However, the subcultures that have replaced it are transgender otherkins, furries, and “performative males”. There’s also a sizable amount of young folks who listen to nu metal and hxc and wear jncos. Most discourse and socializing is entirely online, and smoking weed has largely replaced alcohol for this demographic.
The way I see it, there’s basically a few broad categories of zoomers:
Woke chronically online weirdos. These are your transcotherkins, bronies, redditers, incels, etc. They know nothing of life outside of the internet because they barely interact with other people irl. They only care about one thing: revolution. They seek to burn society down to the ground for excluding them. They have no sense of humor and take everything as a personal attack due to their fragile egos and extreme insecurity. They are radicals of all political persuasions, but the one thing they agree on is burning everything down and killing the rich. They’re usually remote workers, door dashers, visual artists, HR people, IT, software developers, teachers, etc.
Chuds: these are usually apolitical people working dead-end jobs who essentially shun current pop culture and embrace older technology and media. These might have been hipsters back in the day if they had any money. However, this subculture tends to highly value free speech, hates AI and surveillance, and loves edgy offensive humor. A lot of service industry types, and low skilled laborers here.
Rhinestone normies: all the people who make listening to pop country their personality and aesthetic. They love Morgan Wallen, light domestic beer/seltzers, trucks, college football, etc. There’s a subset of trads here that idealize a 1950’s style nuclear family and have turned it into an aesthetic. These are your frat/sorority kids these days as they’re basically the only zoomers with the means to party irl. They are vocally right wing and nominally Christian. Like the chuds, they don’t care about offending people. They tend to work for daddy’s business, are tradesmen, or maybe in marketing. Car dealerships, construction contractors, engineers, etc.
Booktok: these folks are all about pop music that isn’t country. Their fashion is very influenced by Korea and Japan, but is often fairly modest. They tend to love k-pop, k-dramas, boba tea, and anything Asian that isn’t anime. They embrace modernity but aren’t as hyper political like the rhinestone normies or the chronically online weirdos. They just want to dance and read and see movies but often can’t afford it. They also tend to like renaissance festivals, edm, and dream about living in a cottage (but not in a trad wife way). They tend to care about feminism and the environment, but aren’t as in-your-face about politics as the woke weirdos. They don’t like offensive jokes or sex in media, but you better not slut shame a girl’s outfit! Also, don’t ask them what romance novel they’re reading. These women are often porn addicts who read nothing but smut romance novels about women getting captured by and impregnated by monsters. But they are offended when guys like pretty girls in video games. These are usually white collar professionals: accountants, lawyers, HR, teachers, engineers, nurses, doctors, etc.
Performative male: this dude has only one goal: to sleep with as many women as possible. However, he accomplishes this goal by adopting a fake personality that mimics what women like. He carries the coffeshop totebags, reads feminist literature, listens to women indie folk singers, wears earrings, acts like a sensitive man, etc. 10 years ago, he would have been a hipster and 10 years before that, metrosexual. He’s not gay, but he acts like he is because he’s figured out women respond to it. He’s basically the funhouse mirror for booktok, and their natural predator. Their job is getting laid, but he probably is a musician, service industry, graphic designer guy in a polycule.
Black twitter: it’s exactly what you think and exactly who you think doing exactly what you would expect.
Hustle culture: it’s the companion to black twitter but prioritizes long term gains over living for today. It’s all about self-improvement through rejecting tradition and working endlessly towards making money (by any means) and improving one’s physical appearance. These tend to be narcissistic or deeply insecure people. They don’t actually care about building anything like a true entrepreneur. No, these are just as likely to be get rich quick schemes, scammers, MLMs, and guys who use a playbook to pick up girls. They have no interest in building a foundation for success, family, or religion. They only care about the trappings of success, hoping that if they achieve the signlers of success, that they will earn the social capital and prestige associated with that success.
Tech bros: these are essentially futurist utopians who view AI and technology as keys to a post-scarcity future. They fully embrace technology and surveillance as a way to improve people’s lives. There is nothing they can’t see an app helping. They are chronically online like the woke weirdos, but they’re actually making things and developing technologies. However, they also have no concept of privacy or personal property. They’re actually communists at heart looking to create Star Trek irl. However, they see themselves as the new high priests of science who will lead the chuds and others to paradise. AI is their God, Elon Musk and Steve Jobs their prophets, and they are their missionaries. These are almost exclusively entrepreneurs (drop shippers and small manufacturering), engineers, and software developers.

I didn’t use any AI for that. I actually typed all of that out off the top of my head. The gen Z “hipsters” are more balkanized. That was my whole point. Where millennial hipsters had a clear aesthetic and unifying characteristics, the folks who would have been hipsters in general Z are subdivided into opposing factions with very stark aesthetic, musical, and lifestyle differences from each other.

But bro, none of those 'balkanized subcultures' would be called hipster at any point in history much less 10 years ago. You're just describing people. Maybe you just have a very narrow scope of what a millennial hipster was, because not all hipsters, even back then, liked coffee and facial hair. I can tell you from very much up close experience, Gen Z is absolutely going to DIY shows. And as of now, more than Millennials and Gen X are going out to.

I am saying that over time, a clear hipster identity emerged. I don’t see a clear identity for a hipster emerging from gen Z because their culture is lacking a unified aesthetic. EVERYONE wore flannel and skinny jeans (myself included) in the mid 2010’s. There’s a reason this became a trope: it was that popular. The only unifying zoomer aesthetic is women wearing a black t-shirt or tank top with baggy bluejeans, and that’s a normie aesthetic not a counterculture one.
As for live shows, some zoomers do go out to diy venues, just not nearly as many of them or as often as millennials did at the same age. I see this in the music scene. Not only are the numbers of attendees down, but the number of venues has been drastically reduced and the number if young bands is down significantly as well. Those that do show up definitely have the spirit. There’s just not as many of them as there were 10 years ago, and 10 years ago there weren’t as many as 10 years before that. I have very much close up experience as well.

So I think the disconnect is the monoculture of hipsters as opposed to what society deems counterculture. Is it all hipster if it's counterculture? If a youth pastor is wearing it, it isn't hipster.

I did not dress to part per se, but this was a really fun aspect of living in downtown Birmingham. Spent 2010-2016 in Highland Park and was able to enjoy the resurgence downtown. I feel like a big reason this does not exist in Gen Z is because just about all of that involves 1) alcohol 2) socializing 3) not ripping your dab pens.

It's interesting what you say about the hipsters of around the 2000s having more clearly defined aesthetics/characteristics.
Living in Brooklyn, it's fascinating (and frustrating personally) to see that when hipsters started making more money in their later 30s and 40s their DIY/punk infused aesthetic gave way to the now obligatory "bespoke" "refined" "elevated" trends in food, drink, fashion etc.
Still most of them on the same page, it seems. I agree that the current kids in their 20s seem more balkanized.
Their fashion that seems so sloppy and intentionally deemphasized, their hodgepodge music tastes etc can be seen as a rebellion against the degree to which that original hipster generation "curated" everything.
