Many people are glad manufacturing is coming back. But the boom has left me with a few questions, some that you conservative minded people may have the answer to.

1. Why dont more people do manufacturing if it requires little to no education?

If you can just drop out if high school or finish and go straight into making 60k+, why is this not the defacto goal of most people. It would single handedly force colleges to fix their pricing model. It would uplift many poor groups of all races out of poverty.

If it's so easy to get, why arent more people doing it versus the service industry.

2. Why did the US decline in manufacturing over the past 50 years with GOP Presidents in power?

If companies left the US for cheaper labor, how is that the fault of government? I believe deregulation is a good thing, as long as it doesn't abuse its workers.

People don't like overpaying for things. Imagine what an iPhone would cost if it were made in the USA

1. Lack of education is looked down upon. Everyone will say that a trade is noble and should be promoted, but no one wants that for their child. They speak out both sides of their mouth.

2. Cheaper labor means more profit.

It depends on what part of the country you live in. In the gulf south with some experience you can make $34-36 pretty easy. Nashville $28 working like you're in a sweat shop, if you're lucky.

1) uneducated people don't like to be seen as dumb
2) labor and shipping is much cheaper elsewhere

Also, people don't like monotonous jobs with no chance of promotion. Companies limit how high people can go without degrees

Is manufacturing really coming back? If there is a boom, it has been pretty quiet. There might be more manufacturing in the US than in recent history, but globally it is a tiny fraction.

This is why manufacturing in the US will never "boom" anytime soon. It would blow your mind to know how little you can pay someone in the far east to do the exact same work.

No. My work situation is fine. I dont even need to go back to school. But within a few years I may want to change careers. I'm beginning to grow an interest in accounting.

By and large, you make maybe half of that, at most. And 60 would probably be your retirement salary, if you make it up to upper plant management (not corporate).

It declined when it became cheaper to establish business elsewhere, as well as smaller companies being bought by publicly-traded entities. Loss of profit margins, and the community ties of the the plants were severed was a major driver. Unions are also to blame. Government could make things worse with policy as well, NAFTA for example.

[Experience] Worked in roto-molding and assembly factories for a few years. Low-rung stuff. Got out when I realized a few things, one being that manufacturing jobs are whimsical and doesn't have a high wage-growth trajectory.

1- Skilled mfg pays well. Unskilled pays poorly. The two factors determining what you will make for any job is A - How easy are you to replace & B- How much money you make for someone else.
- A skilled CNC machinist makes pretty dang good money

2- We somehow got infatuated with college being the only course of action, and in turn have demeaned anything short of a desk job. Couple that with improved and cheaper transportation and overseas manufacturing became very viable.

Also, as to why people get into the service industry. Most people have ZERO clue what options there are out there. Retail and service work is easy for people because that is what they "know."

You can also make quick, easy money. My little sis just made right under $4k working single shifts for a month. Didn't even work every day. All she did was take orders and clean tables. That's pretty enticing for anyone

Over-regulation has made it difficult for our manufactering industry to compete. Globalization also increase quality of goods or makes them cheap enough to where loss of quality is ignored. If a foreign country wants to penetrate the US market they either have to be cheaper than US goods or better quality than US goods to pull people away from local products. Reliance on foreign goods has given us a pretty good quality of life. The poor in America still have smart phones. If you cut out on imports without doing something to lax up regulation and make it easier for American industry then the cost of living will sky rocket while income remains stagnant. We have already been experiencing an increase in COL while wages have not proportionally increased.

you'd be happy with $60K? Forever?

you have to get these same people to want to work. That's a tough sell when the guvahment is paying them welfare, food stamps, unemployment, etc. Many of these poverty dwellers dwell there cause they don't want to work enough to get off their arse and go do it when they can get most of their basic needs for free.

because you still had mostly libtard, a-hole democrats in Congress passing taxes on the factories and their owners. But the Congressional republicans weren't much better and didn't do much to help the situation either tho. Add to that the fact that you could produce the same goods for cheaper elsewhere and manufacturing declines. and that doesn't even address automation replacing human workers.

First, those jobs are only starting to become more available. They've been pretty damn scarce over the last 20 years.

Second, you have to be able to pass a drug test.

Third, you have to be willing to work long ours and shift work which could include nights and/or weekends.

Because you don't have to pass a drug test to work in the service industry. Also, schedules in the service industry are far more flexible, allowing service industry folks more time to also be parents to children or pursue higher education.

The GOP and DNC have been in on it together. The decline of manufacturing jobs was largely due to 4 factors: 1. automation caused by new technologies reducing the need for physical human labor to make and package things; 2. burdensome economic regulations and union contracts that made hiring/firing expensive and noncompetitive on a global scale; 3. companies being permitted to employ illegal immigrants for less than minimum wage and H1B Visa immigrants for less than the market wage, displacing American workers; and 4. free trade agreements allowing goods manufactured in foreign companies by child labor or virtual slave labor with zero economic, workplace, or environmental protections to compete tariff free with firms manufacturing those things in the U.S.

Dems like the votes from illegals and old union baws who would greatly benefit from those fat contracts up until the plants would shut down; GOP likes the cheap labor of immigrants here and children and slaves overseas.

Because often, a big substantial part of the cost difference was self-inflicted due to taxes and compliance costs levied by the federal government.

There is a balance that must be struck so as to maintain a relatively even playing field between workers and employers while protecting the safety and welfare of customers and maintaining competitiveness on the international market. No matter how cheap your product is, customers can't buy it if they don't have an income.

There have been more manufacturing jobs following Trump's election. The numbers of jobs offered (1000 to 2000) in different state does make a big impact in many communities. However it's not enough nationally when you considered how large the population is.

Your troll game sucks. Didn't realize Republicans were the only Presidents during that time. Thanks for sharing.
