So defensive. Typical of someone who overlooks the fact that I clearly stated Omega's at that price would likely be rough and would absolutely be manuals. Another poster took a minute, like I said it would take, and found an example of what I was referencing, using a source I stated would be helpful. Cry me a river bitch.

Nice one. 1) both of those are original. 2) We're talking about <$700 vintage watches, not heirlooms. Who gives a shite if it has a reprinted dial or bumper movement? The fact is Omega (and many other quality brands) made a shite load of middle-of-the-pack watches from the 50s through the 80s. Not every Omega is a SM300, not every Breitling is a Navitimer, and not every Rolex is a Submariner. I can find decent sub-$1000 examples of all 3 brands that would be better than some Shinola garbage.

I couldn't have said it better. The fact is that there are a ton of lackluster modern brands sporting attractive faces that are absolute garbage underneath. I would easily prefer a vintage beater from a respectable brand than a lot of the newer stuff we're seeing now.
This is however not a bulletproof assessment. Not all newer brands are garbage and not all vintage watches have workhorse movements. But the majority of newer brands seen on this board certainly fall into that category and it's not difficult to find affordable vintage watches that are awesome.
Edit: I woudknt necessarily consider Shinola garbage. The mention of the brand was to reference the recent homegrown trend of "boutique" brands that have become popular. Daniel Wellington, I'm looking at you.

Skagen for less than $100. A stylish classic, not a clunky Rolex wanna-be . Light, water resistant (i shower, swim, etc.) and don't have to worry about it.
