some of you are retarded over dogs. That doesn't even make top 10 worst things a human can suffer with. We just had an OTer lose a 2 year old. If your old dog dying is the low point of your life, then you got it good.
Ah yes you’re never allowed to be sad about anything because somewhere someone else is even more sad. Eat a dick

If that is that is the hardest thing you have ever had to do then you take a minute to be thankful for your blessings.

We had to put down our 10 year old pup due to cancer last May. We have since got a new dog but my wife still cries, a year later, over the pup we had to put down. I’ll prob get some downvotes for this but losing a dog that you raised in your 20’s is like losing a child.

The OP never said it was "the" hardest thing, he said is one "one of the hardest things" he had to do.

Hardest thing I ever saw my dad do was put down our family golden retriever. He had gotten the dog 6 months before I was born and I was 16 yrs old at the time. Only time I saw my dad cry. Hell he didn’t even cry at his sisters funeral

It is similar because young children and dogs both offer that unconditional and innocent love. However, short of the macabre and horrific, losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. My college roommate was killed in a wreck along with his three little children (and his wife watched her husband and three kids burn up in the wreck). My roommate was telling the firemen to ignore him and get the kids out, but there was nothing they could do. That was a terrible experience for me and I wasn't the parent.

By their own logic the parents that lost their child shouldn’t be upset because there have been parents somewhere that lost 2 at one time. Which is obviously a preposterous notion and they know that.

They’re just here to be look at me contrarians.

Probably dog haters. My neighbor and his wife hate dogs. However, when they saw a copperhead in their yard (about ten feet from one of their kids), the wife ran over and asked me to bring my Aussie over to exterminate it (which she did).

The guy that made the original comment is a massive tool so don't pay him any mind.

That's probably not too far off from what he grew up and had his redneck daddy telling him.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My husband and I had three dogs. We had to put the Boxer/hound mix he got in college from the BR pound down in 2016. It was very hard but it was time he was almost 16 and and struggled to get up and down. I recently lost my yorkie that was 15 on 12/20/18. I let her out to pee in the backyard when we got home from work. I went to let her back in and she didn’t come to the door. After looking for her in the backyard we found a fence board by the trashcan that was broken she must have gone through to chase something and we found her hit by a car on the next street. I was devastated. I was trying to prepare myself for the inevitable because she was older but she was a very healthy dog so I assumed I still had time with her. I don’t know what’s harder losing them when you know it’s time or unexpectedly. We still have our lab but the house seems empty and I still tear up when I pass by where we found her. I took her to work with me everyday so it’s hard not to miss her presence. I will say it’s three months later and I find myself wanting another dog because I miss that connection and the lab is closer to my husband unless I put running shoes on.

Dude I understand. Thought the same thing, "look at those retards."

However, something changes when you transition into being respondsible over the lives of members within a family and not just a member within that family. The dog is part of that unit, just like other members of your unit trust you to ultimately care and keep them safe, so does the dog.
