I like to throw a few pee-cans in the pot when I boil crayfish.

When I talk with my kid's friends down here and tell them that they are called "bubbler" I get the biggest "WTF" face from them.

This is regionally contentious.
French pronunciation would be pu'kaan. That would be why you folks in Louisiana and Mississippi say that.
In the Carolinas, Pee'Can is by far the most common pronunciation-- likely due to some carryover of linguistical connection to colonial middle English that is still lingering in our dialect of American Southern English.
It's actually pretty well documented, google is your friend.

In SC, the people who say puh-kahn are those trying to sound like a Lowcountry aristocrat.

never use puh-kahn shells for smoking. They have bits of meat in them that go rancid over time and can ruin a a smoker full of meat trust me and dont do it A lesson I learnt the hard way

I went hunting in Norrh Louisiana on a friends property. The stand was full of pee cans. Bud light pee cans.
I also use to go with a girl from Golden Meadow. She would say in the sweetest down the by-uh accent, “Bigfishchoupique would you like some pah-kawn ?“. The answer was always yes.

That's a bit generous

This is one I've never understood.
Who the frick calls every type of soft drink Coke? That is 100% not a thing no matter where in the south you go.
One that I have heard a good bit that you never see on these quizzes is calling a soft drink a "cold drink". I've heard that one quite a bit.

Yep.
The default in NC and SC is overwhelmingly "Pee-Can". But then again, our culture is not french-based

Posted on 3/4/20 at 3:03 pm to GreyWhiskers

In South Carolina, every soft drink was "cocola."
