I hear Tara has metal detectors at the doors so you shouldn't have to worry if you send them there.

we had metal detectors at Scotlandville Magnet 10 years ago. Guns still got in. Don't believe the bullshite that metal detectors keep your kids safe, they don't

I hope you're joking or referring to that neighborhood in Cali . . . the EBR high school has been, um, "diverse" since the mid-80s.

My bad. Forgot to use the sarcasm font

You want diversity or discipline problems? Cuz you can get one without the other.

Public schools are horrible. It's one of the reasons I moved away. That and traffic.

Do they still do busing in BR with that giant transfer area?
I still don't understand that. If you make each school neighborhood zoned, there will be some community pride and decent schools.

No it stopped when Judge Parker finally croaked.
Too little. Too late. The damage was already done

Is Lee High a good magnet school now? A friend told me she was sending her child to Lee High Magnet. I didn't know it became magnet.

Westdale Heights Academic Magnet (for k-5).
Sherwood Middle Magnet.
Baton Rouge Magnet High School.
That's the trajectory that worked for mine. Very competitive academically, predominantly working class people, very "diverse",lots of really bright kids.

It is now a dedicated magnet school with academic requirements, and I think it shares a principal with Baton Rouge High (Nanette McCann). They hope to be on par with Baton Rouge High, although the schools offer different specialty concentrations.
Their enrollment was down when they were at the Valley Park location during the reconstruction of the school, but since they moved to the new campus, they are hoping to get some of the overflow/waiting list kids from BRMHS. I know a few parents who chose Lee over BRMHS because of some of the things they offer.

I bet Lee High is gonna give BRMHS a run for its money, but won't be able to tell for a few years once they get some graduated classes out.
