After further review, those comments are actually pretty tame compared to what I've seen elsewhere.

By this logic, we should never give federal assistance to those in western states when they have a wild fire, or those in the Midwest when then have a tornado. San Francisco will certainly have another earth quake but people aren't moving out. People are stupid.

LOL

California is plagued with mud slides, forest fires, and earth quakes, but Louisianans are the fools???

To be fair, the comment about building up is a reasonable one. If you're receiving federal aid to rebuild, asking you to rebuild wisely isn't a terrible suggestion. Many people post Katrina and Rita did just that.

Sweet map, but far too little of LA is highlighted as a flood threat.

Meanwhile, Michigan seems like a safe zone.

*NYC is number one terrorist target in the world; why do people live there? They should be required to move immediately, before we're stuck with the cost of rebuilding.
*The govt should refuse money to rebuild the ghetto when the animals who set their own shite on fire refuse to obey the rules of society.
*People who live on the Outer Banks in NC literally live on SAND, are we expected to pay the cost of rebuilding when a breeze blows them away? Fucing stupid.
*LA/SF most dangerous fault line in North America; yet people live there. talk about stupid.
*People in the midwest live in tornado zones, why?
not really sarcasm.
The list goes on, but y'all get my point. Yet somehow only people in Louisiana are ignorant morons.

So a city that has been around since 1699 at some point should have torn out all of its infrastructure to withstand flooding that is not common place?

Like California, Houston, New Jersey, and Nashville?

It's really sad how ignorant how people are and how quick they are to spew their ignorance. They think the entire state is either swamp land where we ride around on air boats like The Waterboy or are below sea level like New Orleans.

I can't stand fricking yankees.

And yes, that's oxymoron, but I've been reading their ignorance for a week. Next time a Cat 1 comes and fricks their world up, expect no sympathy from us.

Do these people think the entire globe has Southern California type weather before humans?

I'm not sure why anyone would want to live in Oklahoma or Kansas, I mean the tornados are off the chart.

There is no safe place to live.
Natural disasters can strike anywhere.

Certainly this flood in LA is a game changer.
The hurricane that flattens New Orleans and floods Baton Rouge will be the end of Louisiana as we know it.

We should just shut the TX and LA oil refineries down for a couple weeks and then ask if they want to reevaluate their feelings.

No, of course not. The point is that getting federal aid should and often does have stipulations as to how it can be used. If you got 8 feet of water in your home, rebuilding higher is a strong recommendation whether you live in BR or CA.

According to your map, everything shaded in light blue is a hurricane disaster zone? Including Central LA, Central and North MS and AL?

Based on your "disaster zone" map, the population should be relocated to Ohio, North Dakota, and SW Texas?

Is this an area that is prone to flooding moreso than any other area? If not, I don't think it's a reasonable request.

Remember that it will also flood Alexandria, completely disabling LA in one swoop.

Raising a house already on piers and one built on a slab is a little bit different.

So everyone that flooded should bulldoze their home and build one on 8 ft piers?
