You in Houston? Burn that PTO and look for a new job.
You in Louisiana look for a new job.
If Houston where is she?
East Houston Medical Center?

Use it. Unless she has very little left. You'll never get to use it all unless illness. They act like you are a complete douche if you actually use your vacation time. Lol

Does she want to get paid for not working?
Use PTO.
If she doesn't want to get paid, I'd she doesn't want to get paid then call supervisor and advise not to use PTO.
You can't force someone into using PTO.

She is on the recovery team, not the ride-out. So she has to wait for official notification that her unit has been re-opened. Trust me, if she were able to go in and help out to avoid burning PTO, she would.
Not given that option, sadly.
If she cant leave it sounds like she should be compensated for being on call in some form or fashion.

Serious response, mine is on the recovery team. THey are taking it day-to-day though but I believe her's is similar to what's been posted. See below.
1. Come to work and help out. May not be your job, Could just be helping out around the hospital to keep things running. You got paid, no PTO used
2. Don't come in and use your PTO. I think the logic is we are not going to give you a free day off
She was suppose to work today but was told not to come in. Rideout was still there.
Updated- PTO would not be used. They just wouldn't get paid.

LBJ closed!!!?
That's fricking crazy.
I heard Bayshore had roof damage or collapse too, but it's odd that the news hasn't covered it.

Payroll was apart of my job during the floods last year. I unfortunately had to advise all my crew that no vacation or sick time could be used to cover lost hours.

Technically they don't. But you will lose benefits as you must use PTO to have something to deduct it from.

They are making their employees burn their PTO days even though the hospital is shut down.
My wife (no pics) used to work in a similar situation but for an outpatient facility. They'd make her use PTO for shutdowns and/or holidays. She was a weekday employee so if Christmas fell on a Saturday, it made no difference in her schedule She still had to work Friday the 24th and Monday the 27th. If Christmas was on a Friday they'd close down and she'd have to use her PTO. Pretty fricked up.

Is this the norm for PTO?
yeah...
PTO, for me as a pharmacist works very well.... i went from 2 weeks vacation and 6 sick days a year, which i could never use, because it's not like you just call in or don't make it to the office when you HAVE to be there for the place to even open... to over 3 weeks of PTO.... now, i do have to use PTO for holidays, when the pharmacy is closed, and that sucks, but you basically just account for that from day 1...
i take my schedule and figure which days will be ones that fall on my days to work that year, then take out my roll over time and i still end up with plenty of time to work with for vacations...
shite, last year, before i transferred to where i am now, i had a full 7 days off every month, just using 1 day of PTO, with the way our rotation was set up between us 3 pharmacists.... that shite was awesome and i do miss that schedule dearly....

But when they call for recovery she should be kept 24 hours? She will get paid to sleep. Will that not make up for it?
Posted on 8/27/17 at 12:16 pm to HoustonGumbeauxGuy
She'll use her PTO now and the company will reimburse her at a later date.

My mother-in-law works at St. Lukes up the The Woodlands, she is making mad $$$$$ this weekend. She is stuck at the hospital, getting paid to sleep and watch TV.

Why wouldn't they just not pay them for that time rather than make them burn PTO?
I'm not sure the rationale but I've seen companies force you to use pto before using unpaid time off. Accruing liabilities or something? Not sure.
