Uh, yeah, no shite.

Cutting the grass, raking the leaves, shoveling the snow (no snowblowers in our family). My brother and I were expected to do it all.

No, but he's also not begging me to buy him junk when we're in the grocery store checkout line when he can buy it himself now. He's also understanding the value of the dollar he earned as he doesn't waste it as much when it's his money that he worked hard for instead of him spending my money.

I was just being a smartass, I think that it's great that you're teaching him how to work, make a buck, learn about handling money, and the irreplaceable bonding, keep up the good work dad!

Both my son and daughter cut the grass when they were teenagers, it was part of their chores. Just a push mower so easier than a rider. Also when they do a shi**y job have them do it all again. I guarantee it will be the last time they do a crap job.
I generally did weed eating etc

I was push mowing 2.5 acres at 10 years old

Ours wasn't that big but I think I can still feel that indentation in my chest where the handle was joined to the mower shaft on that old reel mower.

That was my experience as well. I hated it at the time but the lessons it drilled into me have served me well in my adult life.

Hauling and chopping wood out of the forest up north on a drizzly fall day at 9 a.m. was another one that was awful but still valuable in retrospect. Coming in after that long day working and getting pizza and cokes in a warm cottage was the reward

My son mowed 3 acres on a hill with a 21 inch push mower. I told him it was too steep for the rider which was a bold face lie lol

The front drive wheels on the push mower would slip badly in the wet grass so we studded them with dry wall screws and it worked great. I made sure to let him know he was a pussy for having a self propelled push mower.

My son will have to fight me for grass cutting duties. That's my clear my mind time He's only 5 so I have a little while to change my mind though.

They start off on weed eater duty. Once they’ve proven they can master than then and only then do they get the keys to the rig.

Damn right my son cuts the grass. All he wants to do is waste time. He farts around on the internet learning dumb TicTok shite.

He met some sketchy strangers on the internet and he asked me to a “IRL” meeting with some venture capitalists. They followed his YouTube and were interested in his dumb shite prototype for an intravenous AI guided nanobot swarm. I said, “Son, I don’t give a damn about killing no bad t-cells. I’m going to kill your WiFi connection if you don’t get that lawn mowed!!” Some day he’ll thank me for instilling him with a work ethic.

This cannot be understated. I'll pay my son when he is older but for now, its a check I happily write every month

I used to have a gf with a degree in horticulture who LOVED to cut the grass. She loved it so much she worked as a groundskeeper for the local multi campus community college and cut grass almost daily and trimmed bushes and weeded flower beds. She was in great shape with a fantastic body as a result.

I'm not a lawn guy. I just don't see the joy in it, but I take care of my own. The only thing that gives me grief is the trimmer. Being a taller guy means that I am hunched a bit while using it. The lower back does not appreciate this.

I need to invest in a good edger. The trimmer attachment just isn't cutting it.

Cutting grass was my summer time job back in high school. Me and two buddies got together and knocked it out. This was back in the 80’s before the Mexicans invaded.

I don't love it like some people seem too. Maybe I'd enjoy a riding mower, but I don't think my yard is beg enough.

I'm just too cheap to pay someone to cut it. Maybe after the last kid is off the payroll

Mine started with the push mower around 9-10. Once i got a zero turn he was forced to master the weedeater (about 12). Now at 15, we share duties and knock out mine and his Grandpas house. Only money he receives is if we do a neighbor's yard and get paid to cut.

Fellow tall dude here. I've been using an ego electric trimmer for 5 years. It's better on my back and hands. The motor is in the head so there is virtually no vibration which helps my arthritis.

I enjoy mowing. Hop on the Badboy and drown out the world for a couple hours.
