Here here!
Ok, I’m gonna punctuate this message sitting here looking like a voodoo doll from a colonectomy/colon resection last week. (Pathology was negative)
While I didn’t have cancer (mine was severe diverticular disease), it’s the same procedure used in the first round of colorectal cancer treatment.
I say this because I’m sitting here drinking an awesome cup of coffee, comfy in my bed and on the mend.
Do NOT be scared to get checked, because if something’s caught (esp early), the prognosis is outstanding. If you procrastinate, the alternative is grim and unnecessary.
Just do it folks!

I call myself a poster boy for getting a colonoscopy when you reach "that age".
I turned 50...and because of my family history of both colon cancer (my grandmother) and esophageal cancer (my dad) I decided to get a checkup and have both scopes...colonoscopy and endoscopy.
No symptoms of anything...just wanted the "50-year checkup".
I had inflamed hot spots where my esophagus meets the stomach, which was not a surprise given the heartburn I was having.
But he also found a "significant" tumor in my sigmoid colon...and he said "We'll get the the lab results from the biopsy, but I can pretty much say for certain that it is malignant."
Two weeks later, I had the surgery...removed 12" of the colon and the tumor. The good news was that it had not yet breeched the outside of the colon wall and all 15 lymph nodes biopsied were negative. Ultimately, I didn't even have to have any kind of post-surgical treatments like radiation or chemo...for which I am extremely grateful.
But...my surgeon told me...had I not initiated things and put this off...until symptoms presented themselves, we'd be looking at a much different scenario and ending.
Yeah...the prep is a pain...but in the grand scheme of things...it's a minor inconvenience. Get it done guys...whether you think you need it or not.
Oh...I'm 12 years cancer free now. Still getting regular scopes...every 3 years now.
Gitter done...

Checking in after fasting for just about 24 hours and two glasses of the drink down the hatch.
Fasting hasn't been terrible because I don't get hangry. We'll see how I feel after not eating for another 18 hours
Drink has been in the fridge since last night. The 8 oz cup is going into the freezer after the last one is drank. I don't think the taste is all that bad...kinda reminds me of old school gatorade I'm treating it like a car bomb and just going for it with one drink
Says the effects should set in around 1 hr after the first glass so it's about to get interesting.
Just excited to get this done, check the box, and roll straight into the weekend hopefully with a clean bill of health down below.

Enjoy the next 24 hrs! Ha
Just had my first one about 2 weeks. The prep is definitely the worst part. The colonoscopy itself is nothing. All clear (pin intended) on my end. Don't need to go back for another 10 years.

Nice! I honestly don't mind the taste of the stuff and these are the easiest poops ever.
I think putting each glass in the freezer for 15 minutes ahead of time is key.

Colonoscopy was the most over hyped thing I ever did.
Didn’t mind drinking the powder.
Not eating for 24 hours wasn’t as bad as I thought
Procedure didn’t hurt at all
Never felt better after with MJ drug
I was polyp less as well.
Not near as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

54 and already had 2 because my uncle died of it at 54. Next year will be #3. Great advice.

I have an aunt who died of it and my doctors have only ever asked about my parents. I offered up that my aunt passed from it and they said they weren't concerned about that. Perhaps weren't concerned "as much" by it.

I read some horror stories recently about colonoscopies and complications stemming from them and it's scared the hell out of me getting one. I'm not of age yet to need one with no family history but still.
I am 73 and only just had my second one. Can’t remember when i had the first one, but after thinking i was about to die from shoulder pain 3-4 days til it wore off, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it again. Had several negative color guard tests but docs kept at me. Finally, when I told my relatively new doctor about it, he just asked, “And what is the other alternative if you don’t do it? You are still alive now.” That made sense, so Idid it and this time was no big deal, come back in 20 years—hope i’m still here. Anyway, apparently they did not get all the gas and air out. And that is a somewhat rare occurrance. I made sure this different surgeon knew. Nurse said he was good at sucking it out. Hope none of you go through that.

Rather die than go to the doctor
No body has mentioned having a hole cut in your side and a bag to catch your shite hooked up to that hole. Then the pain of dying from Colon cancer begging them for more pain killer because you can't take the pain that will be with you until you die.
I have had three colonoscopies now. It is no big deal. For the last one, I got a Stephen King Book (1963) and put my well chilled jug of juice beside the toilet and read between explosions. Was no big deal at all. Two polyps, neither bad, and will see him again in two more years.

Congrats on nipping things in the bud (butt?) early, OP. It's infuriating how many people, especially men, do not hit the doctor once every year or two for a physical, bloodwork, etc. Preventive maintenance WILL extend your life.
Thanks to not having any family history with colon cancer, my doc had me do the Cologuard deal where you shite in a plastic container, pack it up, and mail the shite back for testing. That sumbitch sat in my bathroom for several months before I was finally like, eh, frick it...knock this shite out.
I pack the shite up and take it up to the UPS store. This was just after christmas and the UPS store was packed, like line wrapping around the store kinda packed. Cognizant of the fact I'm literally carrying a box of shite in my arms, which OF COURSE has a Cologuard symbol on the box, had me paranoid as all hell. I was doing my best to shield those around me from recognizing the shame I held under my arm and made sure the logo was never to be seen.
The line is moving slow...two people working that day. One is an older dude, probably in his 60's. Dude was just taking his sweet damn time helping people and I'm sitting there with my room temp shite under my arm. Of course, as I finally make my way to the front of the line with the line behind me as long as it was when I walked in the store, I get served by the old guy.
All this time trying to hide the fricking logo and this motherfricker, loud as shite, starts talking about his Cologuard experience! How it sat in his bathroom for a long time. How he sent it in after his doctor got onto him about colon cancer. Blah, blah, blah.
Everyone in that fricking store had to have been chuckling under their breath. I would have been. I was so embarrassed. I shouldn't have been, but I was, and it was fricking hilarious. I'll never forget that old fricker lol

Just finished. One 5mm polyp, which pathology will review and it'll determine timing for my next one.
It was easy. Had a bit of anxiety getting all that stuff attached to me, but when he pushed the meds I dozed off talking about 50 yard line seats at Lambeau and woke up what felt about 10 minutes later.
30 minutes later and the grogginess is wearing off, but not sure I'm going to go fishing/crabbing/shrimping after work like I had planned. A nice cocktail and more food might be the answer

Other than the prep, which really is okay, the procedure is a breeze. You sleep, you wake up, you want ice cream.

OK baws and bawettes. One more time for this thread.
If you do one thing for your New Years resolution, get that colonoscopy.
Early detection is key. YOU have a lot to live for. Children, grand-children, spouse, yourself.
Its nowhere as bad as you think it is. I have had several of them of its a breeze.
God Bless.

And, sorry guys, get over yourselves. The scope is the gold standard not the box of shite. Do the right thing.
Look at it this way, it’s not having 11” of your sigmoid removed (like me from diverticular disease). Its easy peasy.

If hesitant, at least begin with the Colo-Guard. Picked up my blood and had 3 polyps removed - on 3 year follow up, now
I just did this. Real easy, just shite in a box and mail it off.

Colonoscopies and mammograms create more cancer and other problems. Just take IVM & FenBen to prevent the parasites from infesting the body.
