PSA for OT dog owners

A word of caution and advice for those of you who have a collar, ID and rabies tag on your dog (the responsible thing to do) ...
Buy and use this type of collar:
Do NOT buy or use this type of collar:
Why?
If you crate your dog, allow her/him to sleep in a bed that has an iron decorative piece around 3 sides of the bed or if your dog gets into a fight, serious injury can occur.
My dog just got her collar (buckle) stuck in the side of her wrought iron bed, got startled and started slinging the bed all over her dog room. I couldn't get her collar unstuck or removed from her neck and ended up cutting it. I'm glad I was home.
If I would have had her in a different collar (snap), I could have released her from this predicament much sooner. But I didn't. Lesson learned.
Same thing applies for dog fights if you are out at a dog park (mouth gets stuck in a collar, etc.).
3 ... 2 ... 1 ...
here come the negative comments.

Her ears and teeth alone will have to do ...
Also, if you crate your dog, take off it's collar before crating.

I wouldn't use the second collar because it looks like a pain to take off/put on anyway.

My dogs don't wear collars because they kept getting their lower jaws trapped under them when playing. The only time they wear one is when they are on a leash.
But they are inside dogs and I couldn't get them to run away if I tried.

Same for cats too, actually. They should have emergency release collars in case they get stuck.

Cats collars are breakaway.

Trying to figure out what the hell this means.

collars are trashy. My hounds don't need collars as they roam the many acres of my OT baller estate and are expertly trained and highly disciplined to my voice commands.
really is good advice. "Break-away" collars are a good idea if you leave your pup unattended.

I use a leather collar for the same reason I use a leather halter for shipping/turnout of my horse. It will break if pulled hard enough.

LOL. that lead rope will break if pulled hard enough too.

My dog's food bowls are in a wrought iron holder and she had the same thing happen to her. It was pretty funny to watch, but like you said, something you were glad happened while you were there.

More about the owner than the dog.
