This makes it cooler. It adds some exclusivity to it. You would know that you have quality on your wrist, but it just goes right over the heads of the ignorant masses.

You're in luck, there are many, many pilot watches in the same vein. Some even more historically accurate. Case size and dial features are the most obvious details when you wear it, and those are 43mm and 41mm respectively. You're about to step down the rabbit hole since there are tons of options in automatics that range from $500-$1800 or so for the chronograph like the first link. Germans make nice examples just like the Swiss. You really should check out the entire brand offerings since something else may catch your eye.

Brands sites to visit (no order):

Laco
Steinhart
Domasko
Junkers
Vollmer
Archimede

And my favorite Stowa. I think Stowa beats the competition outside of the larger more historically accurate big Pilots that Laco makes, which are cool if you can pull off a 45mm watch and don't mind a mineral crystal. Stowa makes you wait months to acquire one since they are a bit more custom and hands on with quality control.

Stowa and Laco offer their watches without logos or even the date wheel exposed, he'll you can buy them without a second hand as well, so you can get really clean watches that no one would know WTF it is.

This is a 40mm Flieger A by Stowa. Very high quality watch personally inspected by the owner before it leaves his shop. Around $825 with no upgrades. Looks amazing on any band.

Great thread. So nice to see that many still appreciate a timepiece.

Great info Gaston! Thanks alot.

I do actually use the stop watch when I go on trips, to time how long a drive or flight takes. Therefore, I probably wont get one as simple as the Stowa you showed.

I really like the Archimede. Is this a quality watch? Will it hold its value?

Another rookie question: I didnt see that this watch has to be wound, so I assume it has a battery? What type of maintenance am I looking at?

Website Link

I know I should be wearing this watch with a leather band, but I still love stainless steel bands. I feel they look better on me.

This seems like a good deal to me. The only advantage to ordering directly from Archimede is that I can get a domed crystal and Archimede rotor. That makes the price go up alot though. Is that even worth considering? Is Watchmann a good site?

That watch is automatic, meaning the watch is wound by a spinning rotor with the natural movement of your arm.

If I only wear it on the weekends I assume I would need an automatic watch winder, right?

No, you can though. It's natural to set an automatic when you put it on. It's one of the joys of owning them. It'll just fire up when you shake it.

I'd order directly from them and exactly how you want it.

ETA: that's real damn nice.
