Random phone book prank calls.

Adjusting the rabbit ears on a 400 pound 17” television.

Winding a jacked up cassette tape back into place with a pencil.

Not being able to be found. Having the freedom to escape parents and everyone. Not being tracked by technology.

Searching a phone book for some girl’s home number or address, but not knowing wtf her Dad’s name is.

All of the "cool kids" had "children's number" listed under the parents name in the phone book.

I remember calling girls up when I was in 6-7th grade and their dad would answer the phone- I would be nervous as hell. Now 6-7th graders just text each other on their $600 Iphone.

Then beepers/pagers came along. I think I spent more time leaving "8008S" and "911" as phone numbers than anything else.

Picked up some good ones from the neighbors too though.

We knew every person’s business in Central because of this. My friend lived in Comite Hills and we would sit there for hours.

My best friend's parents had a camp in Grand Isle and a hunting camp around Clinton. We'd go to both sometimes at 15/16 years old for days or even a week plus with no phones, high powered rifles and alcohol and never talk to any adults.

The only rule was that we couldn't bring girls but we broke that one regularly.

Those old school police scanners could pull in some audio with amazing clarity for the time. We heard all kinds of things we probably shouldn't have back then

Making phone calls to numbers that start TW for Twinbrook, JA for Jackson and WH for Whitehall.

Sneaking into a Drive-In theater by hiding in the trunk of a buddies car.

Being able to get a job right out of high school to be able to move out the family home and be on your own.
