Problematic Neighbor

So long story short I've got this drunk of a neighbor (60ish male) that lives directly next door to me. He blasts music all night long on his "expensive stereo system" (his words), so loud that it shakes my bedroom from like 8pm till basically I leave for work at 6am the next morning. It's every night of the week, not just weekends.
I've really tried to be cordial over the last 3 years and it's just not working. I've texted, walked over to his house and asked nicely, all the things. To no avail, he still blares his music at 2am loud enough where I can clearly hear the lyrics in my bedroom. He keeps my wife and I up all night long. I'm a light sleeper and have difficulties falling asleep with even a TV on. I finally snapped this morning at 4am when I was awoken by some Paramore and constant thumping from his bass and called the police. I hate that I did that because it's such a waste of their time..but I don't' know what else to do.
He came by to let me know the cops "didn't do shite to him so it was a waste of my time to call".
This is the best place for advice so I figured I'd start here, what does the OT say I should do to solve this problem?

Put the hitch and tires back onto your trailer and move down a few spots in the park

You've tried the polite way. Keep calling the cops. Recruit your other neighbors to do the same.
