That early enrollment option caught my eye. But after researching it I found out that your kid should test out of most if not all of the freshman courses and some of the sophomore level classes if they test high enough on ACT and pre-enrollment tests.

I recommend the parochial schools. They guarantee your children will not burn in eternal hellfire. Ascension public schools don't offer that.

But it’s a fantastic school that is much better than going to Dutchtown.

SJA is a great school but I certainly believe that if you raise your children right, they will end up the same regardless of where they attended secondary school

IS it worth the $45K to send your child to a private school? IMO, Only if they are in the top 1% of their academic peers.

It is fricking awesome not paying tuition, yet still giving your kids quality education. That is rare in south Louisiana.

I don't cast judgement on people who choose private schools anyway, but why not take advantage of what is available is my idea.

You're right.

Oak Grove, PVM and Dutchtown HS.

That's A+, A+, A+

Your kids could not go wrong either way, however, it was nice reading about well established priorities when it came to your children's education...Good Job.

I’m not rolling the dice with my children.

I teach school in Ascension Parish so I’m aware of its good and bad.

Dutchtown HS has issues like every huge, public high school.

To each their own brother

I grew up in NY. The thought of sending my children to a private HS is foreign to me.

At the end of the day it depends on what you want out of the school for your child/children. Each type of school mentioned is going to have its strengths and weaknesses, no school is the best at every category.

Thee "good" public schools are still teaching to a standard of approaching basic. They may have good scores, but don't equate that to a good education. A good public school means most of the kids can read at almost the appropriate level.

Depends on whether your kids will wish to work/live in the BR area after they get out of college.

For good or for ill, CHS and SJA alums have a tremendous amount of influence in the BR community - professionally and socially. Not to say your kids will be blackballed for going to AP schools, but having graduated from those schools certainly gives a leg up on BR.

We’ve always known our kids were going private no matter the quality of public where we live

If you don't send your kids to public school in Ascension, how will they make friends with Braydyn and Bryleigh?

You'd be a complete idiot if you sent them to EA

Most ignorant comment I've read in a long time. And don't give me that inner city/racial make-up BS. EA tests score are lower than Dutchtown and STA, but they're far from bad. EA has always been diverse. My step-son, who is mixed-race, had to leave St. Amant b/c of racists comments and actions towards him, so we moved him to EA and he excelled there. My niece and nephew recently graduated there at the top of their classes. I have close friends that send their kids there and some that are employed by the school. I don't hear anything negative about the school other than stupid comments on this site. EA offers the same opportunities and courses as Dutchtown and St Amant. If I had other kids and lived in EA's district I would have no problem sending them to EA.

Respectully,

EA Class of '90

I'd rather pay for more house in a better school zone than for private school. Trying to avoid a commute is not worth that.

This really shouldnt be difficult to do a pro/con list

Pros for ascension public: More affordable housing, FREE education, solid education at Dutchtown

Pros for Private: Great education, children are less likely to be surrounded by kids from families who dont give a frick about anything

Cons for public in ascension: kids will go to school with some serious deadbeats who have ZERO ambition from their parents on down, less family feel to the school

Cons for private in BR: expensive tuition, more expensive housing, more of a bubble environment

Don't know about EA other than looking at the deplorable condition the facilities are in-makes it easy to make assumptions on the quality of education.

EA Freshmen Academy and cafeteria is barely 2 years old. All the high schools received similar funding for renovations. Dutch HS is the newest, but so will P'ville High when it's built in about 5 years. Then, guess what's happends next...Dutchtown HS will get the same negative treatment as EA cause everyone will want their kids to go the newly built school.
