can't see it happening, not over land, and it would be hard to sustain mach out over the pond without having to slow down and hit a tanker

I've got way to much time in piston single and twins and my favorite single engine is a piper Saratoga. It can carry a pretty good load and it's extremely easy to fly. If you want a twin get a baron. Those are just my personal favorites though.

If you can afford the upgrade to a turbine single however, look at piper Malibus/matrix or whatever they call it now.

That's a good point. The only way over land will happen is with a low or no boom technology and some type of new "RVSM" like airspace for 1+ Mach flying like 45-65k or something

Anyone in their right mind is not flying with you. No fricking way son. Big ole plane just crashed in the Alps. I guarantee those guys had more hours than you on a way more advanced machine. Nope.

What's your budget and how much are you willing to spend per year on maintenance? What distance will you need to cover and how many hours a year do you fly?

yeah no shite, that's why they are also way more expensive. Most of the world can't afford a pilatus, but you can probably find a decent baron/Saratoga out there.

So you went to college and still use 3 independent clause run-on sentences?

Just get a 172 and be done with it. Slow and steady wins the race.

Same here. My dad and 3 Uncles owned a Citation V. It was used mostly for their business and when they weren't using it was rented as a charter to some friends.

My uncle was the pilot but they sold it a few years after he took on a full time gig with Southwest. I guess having to pay for a full time pilot and upkeep was too costly.

I would love to have a 172 or at best a Cherokee six by the time I'm 45. I keep seeing decent used ones for around 40-50k.
The upkeep on those smaller Lycoming and Continental engines ins't that bad, they are fixed gear, avionics can be easily upgraded. Hell if you want to be cheap you can get virtual terrain on an iPad and save $25k instead of the Garmin.
Getting a used plane is in the realm of the average person.

The problem with a 172 is that so many of them are used for flight schools or the low hours are snapped up fast. I've seen a few Piper Archers that seem pretty nice.

Just look at the TBO and then calculate how much you think you'll fly per year. If the plane still has 800-1000 TBO left then you can probably fly that thing for ten years before a major overhaul.

Had a client just sell a Baron for $450k, so you're right. I never read the OP had a budget.
