dpeending on where i lived. For example if i lived in DFW I would move to Southlake, flower mound, or prosper or live in the highland/university park area. My aunt lives highland and my cousins went to school there...they arent exactly the shining example but they are decent enough

Highland park is pretty much an elite Dallas private school tbh. The cheapest housing is now 1.5 million.

i know...so what.

Prosper high is 58% white, wonder what it’ll be in 10 years

nevermind...i didnt know that. I thought it was like 90/10 or 85/15 at worst

then to answer in the DFW area it would be highland park, southlake, flower mound, etc and I would be looking for one that offers elite academics and elite sports programs, especially baseball

My dad was military so I went to 2 middle schools, 3 elementary schools, and 3 High Schools.

I went to a great public HS, a terrible public HS, and a very good private Catholic HS.

Frick boarding your kid these days if you are a decent parent.

What people underestimate about education is the peers. If you have a very good classroom of kids, education is a lot easier and the kids push each other to excel. Obviously the very good schools are also known more by colleges and arguably makes getting into places easier. The top 5% of a very good school maybe better than the Valedictorian of a crappy school. Just depends.

The big problem, in Texas, for example is their college admissions bullshite with the 5% rule. I graduated with a class of 485 and we definitely had more than 25 kids that would qualify.

I think having your kids as part of their very, very local community (ie, other like minded neighborhood/area kids) is an absolute ideal and sticking with whatever the prominent school in your neighborhood adopts is the move if it fits your life/faith/worldview. So if one of those K-8 private schools was THE school for your area, I'd default to that.

But my original point is that even in overall sketchy school systems you often have a local neighborhood elementary school in an affluent neighborhood that is a de facto private school and the go-to for your area (even for people who'd otherwise be private).

well neither

he said boarding school....i assumed he was talking a true boarding school so i was thinking like Phillips Academy, St Andrews, Groton, Hotchkiss etc

I was saying I would never send my kids to those schools unless i lived right next to them

i was saying if i lived in one of the metros in texas like he mentioned, I would rather move into the school districts I mentioned instead of spending money on a true boarding school.

I mean, it really depends. I went to boarding school (Deerfield) and I would not trade it for the world.

My daughter went to the IB Program here that was nationally recognized, and it went to utter shiite when COVID hit, so we sent her to boarding school her JR&SR years at Baylor. She is now at Swarthmore.

My son is in the same IB program but he hates school so I doubt boarding school would be a wise decision.

It really depends on your kid. If you're sending your kids to boarding school for behavorial issues, you're simply doing it wrong.

It's all about the best fit, and what works best for each kid.

My dad, his brothers, sister and uncles from marriage all went to boarding schools up East. My brother and four cousins did as well. I went to a summer program at Lawrenceville. Wish I would have applied. Loved every second of it. Know like 5 or 6 guys from New Orleans my age that did as well.

Elite boarding school as young as possible so that they absolutely hate you by the time you drop them in gen pop of a local public school.

My wife and I both went to good boarding schools and love our parents.

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

ive noticed over the years that this board is very anti boarding school. kind of interesting since people here love to signal their their wealth, or at least proximity to it

The purpose of going to an "elite" primary or secondary school (as in East Coast boarding/prep school) is not necessarily the education itself. It's the network and access they open up.

If you started in that world, then transitioned to a more "normal" school later, you would effectively lose the benefit of it.

To start in ninth grade, I would have gone there. My great uncle has a lecture series named after him at Woodberry. The Fitzpatrick Series. People like Gorbachav have been speakers.

That is what I had in mind. Or smaller ones. There are even some in Texas that aren’t elite but they are still boarding schools… and I would assume they are at least pretty good schools.

Wasn’t talking about those sports academies in Florida, or disciplinary issues or anything like that.

I went to Deerfield my freshman year, which is a tad too young IMHO.

Did boarding school for high School. Also don’t hate my parents. Oldest did high school at local private school. Saw her about as much as I would have if she went to boarding school and came home on the weekends.
