Tell him to spend a week in jail before he makes that decision

Have yall ever seen a white-collar crime prison?
Nope, never had a reason to visit. I know the value of a good attorney.

You need leverage (IE money) to end up in a nice prison.
His broke arse would likely end up in a regular arse prison if he was even smart enough to pull off a white collar crime big enough to hit a federal case

My friend's older brother pled guilty for possession with intent to distribute a decent amount of marijuana (more than 5 lbs if I recall it was back in 2010/2011). He got 6 years, but was released after 2.5 with good behavior. First offense, and a good lawyer.
He was incarcerated at FCI Morgantown and from what he said it was like a very rustic summer camp. No locked doors, well stocked library, spartan athletic facility and televisions. He said there were a lot of white collar criminals, a few small town politicians and non-violent drug offenders. The two biggest detractors he said were limited visits and pretty bland food. Other than that he met a bunch of interesting people, learned a lot, and basically kept his head down to get out early.
ETA- The guy he was with had a gun on him when they were arrested, I think he got 20 years in a medium security prison.

First - Bernie Madoff is in a Medium security prison with a release date of 2139, so he will die in prison.
Secondly - not all minimum security federal prison camps are the same. For example FPC Atlanta and those attached to military bases like FPC Pensacola or in rural areas are quite different in populations and the amount of security provided.
Thirdly- there is no good behavior or parole release in federal prison. One has to do at least 85% of the sentence regardless of first offense or not. There are certain programs like the residential drug program that can reduce the sentence by up to 18 months. So no one does 2.5 yrs on 6 unless released by a judge or change in sentencing guidelines.
So if dude really wants to do some federal minimum security prison time he will get fed, medical care, recreation ( some quite nice), group TV rooms, can buy personal MP3 player, ability to send/receive e-mails on monitored group computers, and visits. Tell him to make sure he gets sentenced to a nice one.

How is this possible? You must serve 85% of federal sentences.
You only earn 54 days of good behavior time per year.

Plenty of 18-24 year old black males have the same retirement plan. Works for them.
And most of them are retiring at a very early age. Maybe we should all take notes

Some of the possibilities are detailed only 2 posts before yours.

House arrest is perfect here.

Edwin was in the federal prison at Oakdale...
prison is prison...the only difference between them is the amount of dick you find in your arse at night.

The white collar, fed crimes are called "camps" for a reason.
Though the smart move would be to vacation to Scandinavia and rob a bank. They get dorm rooms, Internet, tv, fridge.
The guy who killed all those kids and got 28 years. He sued the prison because he was in solitary and won €150,000.

Lots of homeless commit crimes to spend winter in prison

The irony sure is strong...I just hope it doesn't lead to murder one way or the other.

It's been a few years since I have heard my dad mention it, but he used to tell me about a homeless man that would go sit in court once a month wearing a hat. It is not proper attire so he would wear it until he got contempt of court and arrested for 30 days because prison was better than the streets. 3 meals a day, showers, a bed, etc.

Yeah that's the thing about white collar crime - you can't just up and decide you're going to do it one day. A burger flipper isn't going to start committing white collar crimes on a whim. It's impossible.
