Probably used the ULM S-band for that.

Not if Omega is right about that radar being down. It hasn't done anything in more than three hours.

No joke! I was a paralegal at a law firm and the lady who worked our copy center was fleeing her home in The Forestdale, ALarea with her husband for her parents’ house that had a basement down the road in Adamsville, AL on 4/27/2011. Her neighbor was an elderly lady and she was out on her porch as the storm approached. They tried to get her to go with them but were not successful.

The tornado came from Tuscaloosa into Birmingham and destroyed her neighborhood. Both her and her neighbor’s house were razed and her neighbor didn’t make it. That really worked her over knowing she tried to get her to go with them that day.

It is absolutely a necessity to pay attention to the weather here and plan ahead. Of course with brass tacks you don’t HAVE to pay attention. You also can sky dive without a parachute(once) if you want…

It is radar season, after all.
No bag limits, take em all, big or small.

Where is she in Hattiesburg? There is a siren at Thames elementary school which is about a mile from my place and depending on which way the wind is blowing it can be tough to hear. And there aren’t many apartment complexes near us

I hope and pray that NOBODY ITT is depending on sirens. They are not remotely reliable to work and if they work, to be heard

Everyone needs at least 2 ways to get warnings neither of which need to be sirens. Cell phones are pretty good assuming a monster tornado hasn’t taken down the towers before it gets to you. The absolute best is a NOAA weather radio which does not depend on the cell system/internet

Headed right for me I figured it was

It looked to have a lot of hail but seems to have lost some steam. Been rainy and cool here for a couple hours with convection ahead of the main line so it’s likely running out of warm air to feed it. I think I’ll be ok, looks like yazoo city south will be bad. Much warmer there it hasn’t rained at all south of Belzoni

No. Upgrade is similar to RadarScope in that it gets you dual pane, but Omega has a similar drawing feature that carries over from screen to screen. Upgrade does get you 3D radar, though.

All the lightning stuff is on the base version.

ETA: Be warned, though, it is a battery hog. Definitely not the one to rely on in the field or without power.

I just bought it. Not going to upgrade it or anything, just going to play with the base version. It's cool that they include things like SPC outlooks in the base model.

I’m in the warning area north of Vicksburg. Is there one on the ground?

1,000% this. My 10+ year old one died a few days ago. I replaced it yesterday with a new one that looks just like it.

Probably not. It started to tighten up but it broadened out.

Probably not at the moment, but treat it like it is until it passes because you won't have much warning with these storms if it does touch down.

Haven't really paid much attention, but they have a First alert weather day here. Any chance it gets rough around NE Alabama?

This may have already been answered but want to make sure you haven’t been left hanging, I am NOT one of the weather experts in this thread so take this with a grain of salt but I live in the area and I expect us to be in pretty good shape. Likely lots of rain and maybe a few strong gusts but nothing major

Yeah, I don't look for your severe chances to be too high. I think the limits are more my direction, and even that isn't significant.

Yup. Saw a couple bouncing off of the grass. More like pea size for me.

Ours work. Inverness tests the sirens every day at noon. Town was leveled by a F5 in 1971

To this day the only F5 tornado to be recorded in Louisiana and tracked through here

That may be but I’ve always found it curious why anyone would choose to rely on a siren like that when the cell phone option works well and the weather radio option is cheap and works damn near perfectly

Just doesn’t make sense to me but not my business I guess

They still do this? Wow.

They test ours once a month, and they've added several to the area in recent years. I can usually hear three when they crank up if the wind is right.
