Special Weather Statement sounds like some unprecedented event to me. Would rather deal with a regular warning

That storm fought for a while. Every time it would get a decent notch inflow would get cut off. Looks like it has broadened way out now.

looks like the worst of the worst is already beyond me... so I think I'll try to get some sleep

don't know how well I'll sleep knowing how bad it might get in SELA with all the personal connections I have down that way

I didn’t want to say anything because people here hate it when you say stuff like this and downplay an event. But these southeast Louisiana only severe events never really come to fruition. We just don’t get the same severe weather they get a little farther north down there. The proximity to the Gulf and Lake Pontchartrain limit the mixing. That’s not to say that part of Louisiana never gets tornadoes - because they do. The Southeast part of Louisiana doesn’t usually get tornadoes on their own. Usually there’s a larger outbreak up north and Southeast Louisiana gets some residual tornadoes out of that. In confirming this climatology maps show the tornado threat decreases the farther south in Louisiana you go. There wasn’t even one tornado warning from the Slidell office tonight.

Yeah I woke up at 5:30 and it wasn't even drizzling. We're getting some decent rain right now but nothing like what was predicted.

100% this event was definitely a nothing burger for south east Louisiana. But the news talked like the world was going to end last night between 12-6am bc of all the weather. I almost didn’t worry about setting an alarm to get up and come to work I just figured it would get destroyed last night

And they’re ridiculously trigger happy about tornado warnings

It's fine to talk failure mechanisms. A stable pbl was certainly the primary downside last night and thats what happened.

Yes. All true.

But you have to talk about a risk like last night on the chance it does hit because nighttime tornado that had those dynamics to work with is bad news.
