Well how did some appliances get zapped and others did not. I am perplexed at how things that were plugged into a Belkin surge protector were destroyed but other appliances plugged directly into the wall were not affected.

Me too. How bad did you get hit?
I lost three cable boxes, home telephone system, Wifi router, PlayStation, sofa recliners, love seat recliners.
All in all it could have been worse. I just got a new 65 inch TV for Fathers Day and we recently bought a brand new washer / dryer set and refrigerator. Also thank God it did not take out my central AC.

camera system, tv, directv box, outside lights, alarm system, and an ipad charger. It fried my 3 way industrial GFCI. Tripped all the GFCI outlets in the house but i was able to reset them thankfully.

Sucks man. There was no mention of this on Next Door so I was wondering if this only affected me in the neighborhood.

It may be possible that you lost a phase coming into your house. Easy way to figure it out is if your A/C works then it is okay. Just something to check because that is what it sounds like
