It went up around an hour ago under a red flag warning for critical fire weather. They are under a Particularly Dangerous Situation fire weather warning today.

It jumped the Spokane River and is already in a neighborhood.

Edit: It started a few hours ago, but really picked up in the last hour.

You just knew all of that in Canada was eventually going to get here, to some degree. Hopes for getting it contained/out as quickly as possible.

The PNW has had it rough the past couple weeks. Oregon has had a couple if significant dry thunderstorm events that started a bunch of fires, and now WA is kicking off. Resources are stretched thin as hell right now.

That's a huge area to evacuate.

The three stars show areas where structure (homes presumably) have already been impacted.

Traffic backed up as evac continues. This is a dangerous situation.

Washington State Update:
- The Old Trails Fire (formerly the Euclid Fire) ignited today near Spokane under a Particularly Dangerous Situation Red Flag Warning, growing to 50 acres in only 20 minutes and 2000 acres in a matter of hours, continuing to move fast.
- The fire jumped the ridge above the Spokane River into Riverside State Park, crossed the river itself, and is now pushing into residential communities with erratic, multi-directional fire behavior, prompting Level 3 "Go Now" evacuations.
- This is one of a number of major fires burning across Washington and the Pacific Northwest right now. Watch Duty has increased staffing covering the region, tracking official alerts, first responder radio traffic, and evacuation updates in real time.

I just moved back to Arkansas from Airway Heights a couple of years ago. Fire move quick up there and there are enough loons who purposely start them.

And so many neighborhoods are right next to the wilderness. Today is one of those upper echelon days where anything that sparks has a chance to take off.

A potential problem is that there are multiple fires now, the Fairview fire NE of this one and the Autum Lane fire to the NW. Resources will be focused on the main fire. Anything else that starts will only draw them away.

They have a lot of firefighting aircraft up there, but the last major fire we had before I moved still burned a ton around medical lake.

It’s spokane. It’s just as likely to have been a tweaker.

Radio traffic has this fire moving in almost all directions currently.

It seems to have been burning via torching the tops of trees and with the wind it has really moved.

Just talked to a co-worker who lives in the eastern part of Spokane, about 15 miles away. This fire wound have to burn the entire city to get to them, but they are worried about other fires starting. They got cars gassed up and bug out bags packed and ready.

A second co-worker actually lives in same neighborhood.
