i can't remember my mom's car in the late 80s. some random buick, chevy, or chrysler.
this is the first distinct car i remember my mom having in 93 or 95. i was in 3rd or 4th grade.
she never took me to school though. so i'll go with my dad's mazda truck (which became my first truck)

We was po', so mostly I rode the bus.
Our house was always the first stop, so I had to get on the bus and ride for at least 30 minutes - usually longer.
If I missed the bus AND my mom hadn't left for work, I'd be getting dropped off at the convenience store next to school or at the first available minute that school was open.
Which was fine, because whatever $800 beater she was driving - I had little interest in being seen in.
Failing that, my dad would bring me. Which was always an adventure. His truck was shittier than my mom's car, he was almost certainly still hammered from the night before and chain smoking cigarettes the entire ride.
On occasion, parents of friends would pass by, see me waiting for a bus that obviously had already passed and bring me.
How I turned all that into a functional, upper middle-class existence today still boggles me, looking back on it.
