I did see that. I’m not extremely political but I lean conservative. I don’t want to be beat over the head by liberal ideals.

I took this picture. I wasn’t able to get in the restaurant without a reservation though.

Castle Rock is very nice.
My son and his wife lived there for four years. They loved it but moved closer to family when they were expecting their first child. Housing is very expensive.

Well, it’s a sanctuary city. It will get worse.

The actual city of Denver is an absolute shithole. Tents lining streets everywhere, the place is filthy, it reeks of weed, even the people who live in houses are grungy sacks of shite. It's incredibly liberal; they all vote for things like being a sanctuary city and not punshing homelessness then bitch nonstop about illegal immigrants and tent cities.

The surrounding small towns are quite nice and outside of Denver the area is lovely. You do get pretty bad smog and then wildfire smoke in the summer. Winter gets pretty snowy but they manage the streets well.

It’s a great place to live, you’ll be very happy if you decide to pull the trigger. As everyone has already said, Stoneys is a great place to watch LSU and Saints. The snow isn’t as crazy as you think, I might have shoveled 3-4 times this past winter. Also 400+ breweries in the state is a huge plus

Downtown Denver =\= Denver Metro.

I live about 20min west of downtown in our own little part of JeffCo and we absolutely love it. Common sense in the policies and we’re not subject to Denver proper wackiness. Great school options, daycare, park systems, you name it.

Anyone remember the good old days when people discussed cities and states without bringing up politics and/or red or blue states?

Proposition was mentioned to me a few years back, to move from Houston area to Denver area for work. I have a family. I said hell no.

1- State income tax.
2- About similar property taxes.
3- Stupid housing market at that time.
4- Too damn far from speckled trout fishing.
5- I’m not living anywhere that involves shoveling snow.

But it can play into a decision, especially when you consider cost of living might be high because of how the population votes.

Tell me you have never lived here without telling me you have never lived here.

Fort Collins gets Denver type traffic with bad skiing options. You can go ski ice and wind in Wyoming, drive the 2.5 hrs to Steamboat and hope Cameron Pass doesnt close, or you get to drive to Denver and get on 70 like the rest of us. That is the rub with Fort Collins.

OP, any house in an area you want to live is $750k minimum. Yeah, you can get cheaper out east but if you cant easily access the mtns then why live here?

If you are active and like doing things then this place is paradise. If you want a big house and to own a bunch of nice stuff then stay where you are.

Actually the fastest growing area of Colorado is the western slope in particular Grand Junction area.

I moved to Denver about 20 years ago early in my career. I stayed there for several years and liked some aspects but didn’t care for some things at all.

- cost of living was absolutely more than double what it was back in Louisiana.

- traffic in Denver was horrendous..it took me 45 minutes for a 9-mile commute to work in downtown Denver.

-the native Coloradans were downright hostile towards outsiders.

On the positive side:

-obviously the outdoors! Lots of public properties in Colorado give you access to all of it.

- climate, I did not know how much I liked dry air until I moved there.

-suprisingly good food - great Mexican food (not Texmex) and good beef dishes.

Overall it was a good experience, but it also taught me that I need to be in the Deep South. I still look forward to an occasional fly fishing trip.

ETA: I forgot to mention, the LSU alumni association was a high point in my time there. We used to have football watch parties at a restaurant call Bayou Bob’s that were very enjoyable.

suprisingly good food

Favorite steak I’ve ever had at a restaurant was downtown Denver establishment.

However, when I’d spend a week there (at least downtown) I kind of got tired of the overall food scene after several work trips. Guess I just missed being able to cook a simple rice and gravy at home.
