I may be in a similar situation in the near future. My office may be around I10&6. Katy or should I do the woodlands hike?

I work right there some days and commute from the woodlands. I isn't ideal, but I'd rather live where I do.

Disclaimer: I get to leave at 3:30-4:00 most days.

Woodlands is great and with the oil bust houses are on the cheap. You will be paying high property tax so you may want to look outside the woodlands proper into Magnolia or Montgomery.

Was a joke. Sarcasm that you can certainly pay less, but you are going to be in a shitty area. Don't have to go far from the woodlands to be it crap.

I've worked with a number of people who have done this. This vast majority were miserable and made the people they work with miserable. I wouldn't do it. If it were me, they'd go with me or I would stay put.

I've been in contact with a company in The Woodlands and will most likely accept the job if offered. My family will stay here in Louisiana and I'll move there by myself. Any ideas on affordable housing? I will not be getting per diem with this company, and I don't want to get into paying for housing in both.

Any of you used roommate.com? If so, how did it end up?

TIA

i've rented a room a couple of times before ... in houston ... in the heights ... found mine on craigslist ... did advertise on roommate.com, though ... renting a room would be the best thing to do while you wait on the school year to finish and find other housing ... i wouldn't limit myself to the woodlands ... maybe branch out and find something in spring or even conroe ... i haven't lived there for a few years, so i assume rates have gone up, but i found rooms for $600 a month, all bills paid ... a few people were doing what you are, renting while the school year finishes ... have to take a look at quite a few of them and find the right place, so you'll need to go over for the weekend and investigate ...

Not sure which is more ludicrous, suggesting he live in Gunspoint or saying it's a 15 min commute

Nvm I see it's sarcasm

Move your whole family there and be done with it. It's a great place for the family and moving in the middle of the school year won't cause PTSD.

OP - I would look at apartments off SH 242 or FM 1488 near I-45. Tons of new ones last time I was up there, I would think you can find a 1 BR around $1,000 or maybe less.

ETA: 900-1000

800-1000

Both of those are in nice areas and pretty convenient to a lot of stuff

Yeo, there are a lot of those places and the further from the interstate you get, I'm sure it's cheaper. If you work in the woodlands, no need to be right next to the interstate.

If it was March or April I would understand, but the school year isn't even halfway. Do you have a senior or something?

it is a master planned community outside of Houston...

it really is a wonderful place and if you could work there, you would basically never really need to go anywhere else.
