i wonder how many people under 40 can even drive a stick
I'm 34 and have a 1987 Jeep Comanche with manual transmission. It was my first truck. Got it when I was 14. In high school, was the only person out of my friends with a stick.
My dad thought it was important that I learned how to drive a stick before anything else.

Even the Turbo S? That’s my dream car
If you are asking if the 911 Turbo S will be only sold with the PDK then yes. In fact, the Turbo S hasn't come with a manual since the end of the 997 chassis in 2013.

When I took drivers ed, the old sedan was a three speed on the column. You couldn't pass the class until you could pull forward on a steep hill without backing over the traffic cone set behind the bumper. Poor girl that was in the car with me either burned up the clutch or the instructor finally took pity on her after she promised to never cross the old Mississippi River Bridge by herself.

Shame. I enjoy driving manuals, but it looks like I'm a dinosaur. Ironically trail driving a Jeep Wrangler is harder with a manual.
As much as I love a manual I have to admit they are a bit of a bitch at the boat ramp lol.

Why would anyone want an automatic 911?????

It has a pdk transmission

Because a PDK 911 is faster. Plus Launch Control is awesome.
Having driven manuals for much of my life and then PDK and DSG cars I'm old enough to say I prefer them.

Think this is an uproar? Just wait till Porsche has to electrify the 911, or quit making it altogether.

I'm 40 and the only reason I can is because my first car was a manual. Very few people I know my age can drive a stick. So few cars exist now that are manual, so it's not really a necessary skill at this point.

This is really going to hit the common man hard. Devastating news.

The first car I learned to drive had automatic, but my Dad had a 1930's Chevy pickup with floor shift and later a 1967 Ford pickup with 3 on the column. Plus I was luck in that he had access to Army jeeps and Deuce-and-a-halfs (halves?), so I learned to drive all of those before I was 15. We lucked into a Mercedes A Class built in (I think) 2014. Very low mileage, probably our last car. We don't drive much and haven't broken 100K miles, almost all our driving is Autobahn. I wouldn't trade the manual 5 speed for anything. Stop and go traffic is no problem. Driving a manual is "automatic" for me and everyone I know. Part of the driving test here is starting the car on a steep hill and driving upwards without rolling back.
I fully understand that new cars are faster with auto, and there is definitely (for most people) an added comfort level. But I never want to miss that control. For me there is no added convenience. My wife has never driven an automatic, that's why I do all the driving when we're in the States. I'm sure she would do fine, but she doesn't have the built-in reflexes (what do I do with that left foot?).

I'd pay extra for a manual transmission. It makes the otherwise brain dead task of driving a little less brain dead and a little more enjoyable.

Paddle-shift in manual mode helps a bit, ears and eyes both fully involved...

Porsche fanboys are too emotionally invested in the company to admit its become a brand for status now. Not the accountants sports car anymore.

Bingo. When I got my 992, I opted for the PDK because there was no chance in hell I was going to deal with a manual in a DD, especially when the traffic in the northeast is godawful.
I get it, it's just what you prefer. I was looking at few M3 Comps a few months ago, which doesnt come in a manual. While its fast and fun, it was just kind of boring to me. No point in even using paddles, the cars better at shifting than you are -- even on a track. Gears are so tall now you really only use maybe 3 gears max anyway (on a track). They should just remove paddles, pretty pointless.
I'll stick w/ manuals in traffic until I am forced out...

If you're doing timed laps maybe. Paddle shifters in a 1 ton truck would be ultra lame. No point in pretending, it's an automatic and it'd still be lame af.
I get it, automatics are faster. Streamlining production increases profits. People will buy the car anyway. I get it. However this is America, and I can jump in my car and drive for weeks upon months upon years and never leave America, and never see the same thing twice. Driving is the ultimate freedom. Actually driving rather than just riding in a vehicle so dramatically enhances the experience to me, whether going fast or slow.
Thankfully I can still get stick shift commuter cars, which are also ultra lame. They are however less lame than slap shift or auto commuter cars, which are as lame as a human can find.

Agree
One of my car's shifted in 0.12 seconds, still was not as fun as a manual transmission despite being a couple Tenths of a second slower with me shifting (Gasp).

I would think most of you are buying these cars for fun, and not to win any race, right?
Seems a manual would be more fun unless you were actually competing. I've never tracked a car but i have jumped railroad tracks before.
