Granted, those old cars did require quite a bit of troubleshooting, diagnosing, and "fixing".

But we made do without spending a lot of money.

How do you pronounce "douche"?

Some people appreciate driving nice cars.

I've been to the Porsche NA HQ in Atlanta several times and nobody who worked there pronounced it that way.

Been there too and I know. I worked across the street from a Porsche dealership on Mansell Road in Roswell and they pronounced it porsh too. Most Americans pronounce it porsh. Every once and a while I’ll hear the German pronunciation porsh-sha.

Gas burners in general are 60X more likely to catch on fire than EVs.

Anyone that loses the arse end of a 992 even in pouring rain on a TEST DRIVE needs to stick with a Civic or better yet Uber. I ain't Hans Stuck but I can get around VIR, Road Atlanta, and Barber without a map and I ain't crazy enough to drive that fast in the rain.

BTW since you left P-car sales in '14 be aware the new 911s have sensors that automatically switch PSM and PTM into wet mode when they sense a wet surface.

Off topic but since there are a few 911 enthusiasts in here...

996 vs 997 vs 991

Carrera T vs Carrera S vs C4S

Coupe vs Targa vs Cab

PDK vs Manual

If someone was looking to buy their first 911 in the next few years with a $40k-$70k budget in mind, which combo of the above variations would you recommend?

Obviously prices will continue to rise so the budget range could change, the main idea is what is the best 996/997/991 non Turbo/GT3 911 configuration for an OT Poor.

You can get a 996 turbo for that money which will be by far your best value.

I wouldn't get a non-mezger 996.

You probably aren't going to find a nice 991 for that money but you could definitely find well maintained and nicely optioned 997s for that.

PDK is extremely good, but if you want a standard then you want a standard haha. You will also need get a 2009+ to get PDK. Prior to that is tiptronic.

I prefer the C4 just for the widebody. That being said 911 awd (at least in 996 trim) barely qualifies as AWD.

Kills me that 997.1 GT3s were sub 100k like 2 years ago lol.

Range
Ease of refueling, which leads to more range.
Ease of maintenance
Real mean love a well tuned exhaust

As you have noted it is hard to guess the market over time. I know we are in a super inflated car market now and Youtube is driving sales of a lot of "special" performance "bargains" but I just (reluctantly) sold an E46 M3 for $44,500. I paid ~$58,500 for the car new 17 years ago! It was worth maybe $17k 7-8 years ago when it bottomed out. I paid more for insurance over those 17 years than I paid in depreciation.

The 996 TT is probably the best bang for the buck in that range and takes mods very well if that is your thing. The thing is you will be driving the least loved 911 of all time. Still a great car though.

I personally think your best choice, or I should say my choice in the budget, would be a 997 Carrara S manual.

The 997 looks so much better than the 996.

I prefer hardtop performance cars.

The Carrera S isn't down much on HP to the 996 TT but doesn't have the torque but it enjoys revving.

I prefer a PDK but mainly because it is quicker and lap times are better and it is harder to make a mistake. Especially if it is a 2nd car a manual will be enjoyed. There is quite a difference in acceleration unless you abuse the manual by power shifting but the choice is really personal.

If you like a performance car that can turn and stop the 911 strikes an impressive balance in performance, build quality, and daily liveability that few can match. There are plenty of cars that can outgun it in 1 or 2 of those metrics but matching all three is very rare.

Even Schumacher and Massa had issues getting a good one.

That being said a lot of supercars (the Italian tractors built by Lamborghini also getting toasty on occasion) need a little more care and feeding than a Camry.

Funny enough guys on Rennlist are trying to figure out if their cars are on Felicity Ace a transport ship full of VW group cars including Porsches that caught on fire just a few hours ago.
