I'll take an air cooled carbureted 911
I hear people say this a lot, I wonder how many have actually driven one.
I think most younger drivers would be greatly disappointed w/ the average air cooled flat 6.

The 911 died in 1998.

For me to buy in to electric cars would mean I'd have to buy in to climate change. I'll never own an electric car.
Such a bizarre position to take. To never consider an electric just because of politics.

Not sure why the down votes unless they are taking issue with the pronunciation of poor (it would be more clear if you used por). The key is Porsche is two syllables.

Not sure many realize how super fast the Taycan is - all electric. It’s ridiculously quick

If you are talking about a reimagined one like a Singer I could agree but having owned air-cooled 911s in the past they just pale in comparison to the modern versions. I owned arguably the apogee of air-cooled 991s, the 993 Turbo (setting aside the rare GT2 widowmaker), and outside the cool and collectibility factor even a 996 was a much better-sorted car, well once the IMS issue is fixed.

Is that car really enjoyable to drive?
The old maxim: it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow applies to the Miata.
Put a set of R888s and some EBC Yellowstuff pads on a stock MX6 and it is more car than 99.99% of the population can exploit on a twisty road. An even better example is an Elise/Exige, even the low hp versions. Lightweight, modest power and laser-sharp steering makes for a fun street car. Colin Chapman is nodding.

I had a Karmann/Volkswagen that Porsche graciously called the "914". Does that count?
A friend of mine had a '73 Carrera with the 6cyl boxer. That was the best get the frick outta here mobile. P/W ratio was excellent in that car. The handling was the whole trick. It helped to have driven Volkswagens with the weight over the real wheels. Once you got used to that, cornering those little 911s was a charge.

THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE !
Actually the performance of the electric 911 will far outstrip the ICE model even in the turbo configuration.
Weight distribution will be far more even eliminating the dangerous oversteer for which the 911 is famous.

Snap oversteer was pretty much engineered out by the 996, even with the Turbo versions of the 997/991/992 you have to be pretty liberal with the go pedal to rotate the car mid-corner and really have to ham footed to lose the rear even with a sudden lift. A driving style honed in 911s prior to the 996 will make you slow in 996s and newer, using a driving style learned in a newer 911 will make you dead in an older one.

Interesting.
I've been to the Porsche NA HQ in Atlanta several times and nobody who worked there pronounced it that way.

Tesla seems to have shown electric cars can be fast as hell. What is it exactly about a gas powered engine makes it so much more appealing than an electric?
How about the sounds and smells and feel of a beautiful 1970s Porsche? get the frick outta here

I had a 1989 944S2 and the handling on that car was like it was on rails. The 944 had many innovations. I miss the hell out of it. Such a connected feeling to the road.

70s and 80s Porsche are tops for me. That was the greatest era.

It’s a family name and the family says Porsh-a so your Georgia Hicks in Atlanta don’t know what the frick they’re saying.
