My bad. I'm thinking of the last of the air cooled. 95-98 model years I believe.

That’s the 993, and they are rising fast. The 996’s are cheap bc Porsche purists think the design is bad, mechanical issues, and bad interiors. Probably good value if the mechanics are sorted...those and 997’s.

I'm trying to justify a 996 turbo purchase to the wife now....it's not going great.

I'm sure you have already told her that you are buying it for her, right?

When buying a used porsche what years/models to avoid

I've done quite a bit of research on this, and there really are none (I did not research pre 996 because they're too expensive); I drove 2 996's (years 1998-2004) and they were awesome to drive, the lights/interior really aren't that bad; 2002-2004 years have basically the same engine that they continued to use up until 2009, they are fast and fun, and you can a nice one for 20-25K

Only thing to look out for is the ims bearing issue.

Don't have to worry about that with the turbo engine though.

‘’911s are douchey’’ is a myth perpetuated by people who can’t afford a 911.

Nice. I’ve always wanted a Porsche. Looking at their website and I’m not comfortable spending that much for the 911. The 718 prices aren’t as bad though and they are pimp.

For a sports car it's reliable and that insufferable back seat keeps insurance lower than other sporty cars.

The three most iconic cars of the 80’s were the 911, the Lambo Countach and the Ferrari 308.

In ten years when guys with money that were in their 20’s in the mid eighties are the auction buyers, those three cars are gonna be the money cars like the late 60’s/early 70’s muscle cars are today for the Boomers.

They already are. Any manual trans porsche, lambo or Ferrari is on the way up. A manual gallardo from 04-08 or so is worth more now than it was a couple years ago. A diablo is worth twice what it was just 4-5 years ago. Same with a Testarossa

I just worry too much about having to service a Porsche out of warranty. A PDK tranny could be 20K+. Rebuilding it isnt an option. A used engine block is stupid money too.

Although the PDK tranny is supposedly bulletproof. Porsche NA engines are real reliable too.
