re: Pope says Catholics who can’t go to confession can ask God directly for forgiveness

Um, this is nothing new. Perfect contrition has always been sufficient for absolution. Perfect contrition means the sole reason behind it is that you're sorry you offended God. If you're also worried about not getting into Heaven or want to be properly disposed to receive the Eucharist, that's imperfect contrition.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation covers you for imperfect contrition. Priests basically have power of attorney.

its partial.
asking forgiveness should be preceded by confession.
in my cult, er, sect, we hand write out our confessions in a once a year ritual and then they are burned in a fire pit.

I totally agree with you.

I know a lot of people don’t understand or appreciate confession, but as a Catholic I enjoy meeting with and talking to my priest for confession. They’re still human and a lot suffer from depression and other issues that we all do.
You also get to hear "I absolve you of your sins".

Catholicism has always been a racket since before Martin Luther.

Just more examples of how religious doctrine is setup to make people fell about themselves and subject to change with the times. In this case, the church is letting you know you are still a bad person and don't think you can get out of confession.

Confession was the way for the DS Vatican to blackmail people back in the day before we had technology to do that. I call BS on the majority of the stuff the Catholic Church preaches.

Only thing left is to destroy the farce of transubstantiation and this dude will turn them all Methodist.

Yep--you can't pray over bread and wine and make it the Body and Blood. Only one of their guys can do that irregardless of his behavior relative to your own.
I did not convert over this very issue while I was in my fifties. I listened to a Priest deliver a homily about the importance of the Eucharist in our own standing before God and basically our entrance into Heaven. I couldn't bring myself to believe that only the prayers of a priest could cause transubstantiation.

That’s really nice of him to allow that.
I hope he ok’ed that with the Man upstairs.
I’d hate to think that I was in the clear and come to the out he didn’t have the authority to do that.
First the Archbishop said we don’t have to go to Mass now this.
It’s like I died and went to Heaven.

But keep sending in that money every week even though you shouldn't attend church.

Hate to say it, but there’s lots of things you can do without paying an intermediary.

The “once a Catholic always a Catholic” thing is always misunderstood.

I never said or implied any of that.

God is always with us and yes, this is not heaven.

Jesus- this reminds me of how my mom and dad still won’t eat meat on Friday during Lent. Absolutely stupid, but it’s like old fashion Catholicism. Glad I’m went Protestant when I was old enough to make
My own choices. The fact anyone believes you have to confess your sins to another sinner as a mediator to the Lord is wacko anyway.
God is everywhere all the time and always listens to our prayers and what’s on our heart. Thanks for nothing Pope, or should I say little horn.

I was doing that way before the Pope is okaying it...why stop at the middleman when you can go straight to the TOP?
