I absolutely love mine... spills over into the pool.

Pros- heater is amazing. I have had a kids swimming party in January. Perfect for warming the pool up a few degrees on those March or April days to get people to hop in. Gas bill goes up, but not proportionately to the amount of fun I have... maybe like $30 a month if I really use it.

Cons- Heater has blown a few fuses. Pain in the arse when people come over expecting to party and the SOB breaks. Extra lines and costs... my heater was $2500 + spa was $5-8k (shite if I remember) and the extra water lines... all told it added up, but I still enjoy it.

If I was you, I would do it.

We decided no spa or heater due to friends never using them and the costs of electric bills

They are great. Love setting the TV up next to the hot tub during football season and watching a game while eating some snacks and having a few drinks. Kids always end up in the hot tub, swimming in circles to create a whirlpool.

Ok so since everyone is pro, what size did you go with 6 x 6 seems to be standard is that large enough?

6x6, depending on what your "step in" arrangement/bench seat capacity" is, really only seats about 4 adults (of the non-twerking variety). We love ours here in DFW because it really allows you to get out there and still enjoy your spa in Oct/Nov and Mar/Apr. Ours spills over and will heat the pool if you're proactive and crank it up in time.

If you're looking for frat-star pool party fun, you probably want to go larger. In two years we'll be empty nesters and we'll love it!

Plan on the heater being the next thing to bio-degradable and you won't be disappointed. If you're minimally mechanically inclined you can keep your heater limping along for 2-4 years after the first 1-2 year honeymoon period before it becomes cheaper to just buy a new one than to keep patching together the old one.

Gas is cheap right now, it's a low cost extravagance.

I say go for it!!

I have a pool and have always regretted not including a spa.

Heat the pool with solar and your heating bills will fall a lot.

Get the spa. We use our's year round when air temp is not too cold but pool water is still cold. I do not heat the pool -
way too expensive and takes too long to heat up.

Thanks sounds like a no brainer based on this thread. Now I just have to decide 6x6 or 7x7

Mine is 7x7...the extra foot is nice when you have a few people over...or a bunch of kids playing around.
