A Ponchatoula mother and her boyfriend face negligent homicide charges after an autopsy revealed her 2-year-old child died from the toxic effects of kratom, police said Friday.
Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson identified the suspects as Brooke Harter, 31, and Dominick Cenni, 27.
Police began investigating the child's death Aug. 24. An autopsy determined the child died from the toxic effects of dihydro-7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine, compounds associated with kratom, a substance derived from a plant that can produce opioid-like effects.

This is where torture should come into play for crimes such as this.

They really need to outlaw Kratom. It does nothing but harm Americans and pays foreigner head shop owners.

But maybe the mom was sad so she can’t be blamed

Kratom is an interesting underworld. I don't understand why it's allowed.

My personal observation
General population views it like weed on the drug scale
Reality is more like Meth if you had friends / family on it

Its already banned in Louisiana. Plain old pure leaf Kratom, while certainly addictive isnt really harmful for adults if used responsibly. These morons probably left it out and their child accidently ingested it.

Pure leaf kratom....not the enhanced stuff is more like a mild opiate/stimulant. The enhanced stuff or that pure 7-OH shite is more like a powerful opiate....and thats where stuff gets dangerous real fast. Nature gave us a nice plant that we can enjoy with moderation and we supercharged it into something that has no business being out there in the public ...necessitating these bans.

Same with Alcohol, which kills 1000x more people than Kratom(of which I’m no fan of).
Either make it all illegal or don’t.

Mom can play the post partum defense. Dad is fricked.

Prohibition did not work, booze consumption went up when illegal
Make is legal and close any loopholes, then tax the crap out of it to fund rehab costs.

As always, these articles are willfully deceiving to push a narrative. The baby was exposed to a highly potent, synthesized version of kratom. No one is dying from pure leaf kratom. That said, frick these idiotic "parents"

Surely they can claim it’s a “late term abortion”. Isn’t that right our Leftist friends?
