Glad the cops appear to be okay but the one who he tried to slash should be on administrative leave with no pay for a week or so. How do you stand that close to a guy with a nearby weapon without having your gun drawn?
Plus, the officers to his left and right were in the line of fire of each other if they had decided to shoot the moment he went for the weapon. Poor position.

I wonder if every time Ben Crump sees a vid like this if he's pissed that he lost out on yet another payday?

First, always have your weapon and eyes on the suspect
Second, realize that with in 20ft a guy with a knife can get you
Third, be mentally prepared to fire directly into center mass
That cop did none of those

Inexcusable really. Once the knife was on the ground they should have separated it from the dude with guns drawn. That shite shows you just how fast a situation can turn sideways. That took what, like MAYBE one second for the dude to grab the knife and be on the cop? He's very lucky he didn't get stabbed or worse.
I'll never forget that video from like 15-20 years ago of cops in (I think) Brazil or somewhere like that, and they were dealing with a psycho with a gigantic kitchen knife in a field next to a fence. And they were all just standing around not killing the dude. I guess maybe they didn't have guns or something like that. But this dude would just run and lunge at them every now and then and slash them to pieces. IIRC, he killed at least 2 or 3 of the cops. And the amount of time it took him to do it was incredibly small. Like 2-3 seconds and he was on someone and murdering them, And the other cops were still just standing like 15-20 feet away the entire time. I wonder if that video is still on the internet...

They have specific training to show trainees just how quickly a person can close the distance and cause great harm with a knife. Although he ended up neutralized by a gun, he did close that gap quickly.
