Some police agencies sideline Fords over dangerous fumes
USA Today

DETROIT — The swirl of concerns about fumes in Ford Explorer Police Interceptor SUVs is increasing

Police in Auburn, Mass., reported that three officers were admitted to hospitals for high carbon monoxide levels and posted photos on Facebook of a crash involving an officer in a 2017 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor who suffered from carbon monoxide exposure

quote:

The Associated Press reported last week that police in Austin planned to pull almost 400 Explorer SUVs from their fleets after reports of exhaust fumes sickening officers.

U.S. auto safety regulators are investigating complaints of exhaust fume problems in more than 1 million Explorers from the 2011 to 2017 model years, according to the AP

Supposedly caused by an A/C setup being designed incorrectly and widespread issues with cracked exhaust manifolds.

I guess cops didn't have enough ways to get hurt or killed on the job.

Ford has known about it for a couple of years.

Is this only on the police interceptor models or is it on all ford explorers?

It's all 2011-2017 models. There are lots of reports or civilian versions also having the same issue.

Our agency issued brand new Explorers along with a CO detector. Not good.

They are going to have to issue CO detectors with Ford products now.

Yes. A 3 row unit body car that can neither tow anything of substance nor be taken off road. Thats the Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder, or Toyota Sienna.

A 4Runner is an SUV.

The newer Explorers are minivans.

It really doesn't matter what you think it is, it's classified as an SUV.
