I'm glad I'm not alone in my disdain for people who call their unibody "crossovers" an SUV.

I hate crossovers. SUVs are 4 Runners, Wranglers, Tahoes, old Ford Broncos etc.

I think I was determined to be the fault of the Firestone tires. Not sure, though.

You are correct this was in reference to the person saying the picture posted before mine was of a rouge

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

Big spending for a supposedly broke department.

The police Explorer is AWD, just like the Taurus Interceptor it's based on. The S.O. I work at has a few Explorers, they aren't built strong enough for police duty. Low speed work in a city might be ok, but running around answering calls in a rural area is really hard on a vehicle. The old crown vic is heavy and slow, but you can hammer one day after day and it just keeps going. Right now, the Tahoe is a far superior police vehicle compared to anything Ford is building.
With that said, the Taurus Interceptor with the Ecoboost is pretty quick.

I have a Tahoe PPV that's assigned to me for the task force. It is, hands down, the most uncomfortable vehicle I've ever driven. Rides like a brick being dragged down the street, every slight bump is felt. Now, I can take a turn or sling it down an interstate offramp at 80 mph and it sticks, but I can feel it in my back after driving around for a few hours.

I don't have a link or know is there is one. It's part of the $23 million the Convention Center the City as part of the public safety plan announced last year. The vehicles have already been ordered.

That sucks. The civilian versions ride well, but I don't think they are intended to take corners at 80mph like the PPV.

What's bad is carbon monoxide poisoning can show up years later as well. It's effects are not always acute and immediate

n several cases, Ford found gaping holes had been drilled into the backs of Explorers after they were delivered to police departments, Weigandt said. The holes were used to install equipment, such as additional radios. They weren't properly sealed, allowing carbon monoxide to enter the vehicle, she said

ABC evening news had a story about this middle of week, and stated that was the likely cause. The Austin PD had to pull their entire fleet off the road, because of where they drilled holes.

Fleet managers are finding the issue.

quote:

Mechanics in Montgomery County like David Dise, director of the county's department of general services, are finding cracked manifolds in their Explorers so often that he believes the problem could be affecting 80 percent of the fleet. Most are police cruisers.

"We believe this is a manufacturer's defect," Dise said.

The exhaust manifold collects gases from an engine's cylinders. A crack could release carbon monoxide into the engine bay and through the vents of a vehicle's cabin.

"If you're running your air conditioning or your vent system, that's the air that's coming through the engine compartment. So you're sucking carbon monoxide into the cabin if you have that kind of a leak," Dise said.
