Pokemon and my 6 year old son. Cards only. No app.

After 6 long years, it finally happened.
I can give zero shits about Pokemon. As a good dad I put on a good face and pretend. I was there man. Yo Gaba Gaba, Dora and Diego, power Rangers. When the new Star Wars came out he was all about my old Star Wars stuff. He now talks to me about Pokemon cards like they are Star Wars characters. He thinks I know about them like old Star Wars characters.
Asking all the old folks who breed on here, when did you finally hit the "wall"? What was the TV or toy series that you just could not wrap your head around? I'm a good dad and a good sport, but it's a struggle.
Old Dads chime in too. Maybe it was Barney, maybe you're OLD and it was Sesame Street?
Ib4 "you suck as a dad".

How does a grown man with a job and a kid have time to dick around on a college message board?

this is far from a "college message board". I'd guess that 95% of the users of this site are not enrolled in any university currently.

I miss the days when coyotes tried to kill roadrunners in imaginative ways... now all these cartoons want to teach kids Spanish and Chinese and shite.

I hated Barney and was glad my kids weren't too into it. But once your kid loves something it's hard not to come to appreciate it at least a little.

I know, right? Today's writers would have ruined the oldies. I can only think of a few "educational" programs from my childhood and that was Mr.Rogers and Bill Nye. What was the one with Lavar Burton?

What the frick did I just watch?? That was a legit acid trip right there.... The sad thing is, my 3 yr old daughter would probably be mesmerized by it...
But for now, I can tolerate Paw Patrol...

Yep, when my kids were that age they loved that shite....

This.
Pissy bastard. If guys with jobs and children were to leave this board there would be about 40 people on here now. Total.
And if the ban on porn was not lifted Chicken would have to shut it down.

For me, it was Spongebob.
I just couldn't... and still can't... see the appeal of the show.
And it's not just the show itself. It's how often the show was/is played. It's like it was CONSTANTLY on, back in the day. Every day it seemed like Spongebob was dialed up for 8 hour marathons.
I drew a line in the sand on that shite. I wouldn't let my kid watch it for hours on end. But his cousins? Yikes.
My son is an adult now, but if I had to do it all over again, I would cut his exposure to TV and electronics by about 2/3.
You can learn a lot from TV, and that's just the thing. They learn the wrong things.
I know... "get off my lawn, right?" No, not really. There was plenty of stupid shite on TV when I was a kid, but at least our three-channel household made you watch different stuff, like the news, whatever sport was on, and war documentaries. That balanced out Gilligan and Bugs Bunny a bit.
These days, if you want Spongebob and the like all day, every day, with nothing else... you can have it. And believe it or not, some people have it that way.

Paw Patrol.
Paw patrol was brief. He goes back every so often.
But Pokemon is crazy. And memorizing characters and cards and how many forms each can evolve into?
Good luck to the guy with MLB network. I got my son to watch 10 minutes of the PGA this weekend. It was a start.
