Please explain this to me

Last weekend wife’s parents came in town for the day. They were here for 8 hours or so visiting and hanging out. My mother goes to visit my brother and stays for the weekend this weekend. Wife comes in and ask me if my mother doesn’t understand what is going on in the world right now and why is she visiting my brother for the weekend. I asked her how is it different than her family visiting last weekend and her response was they didn’t stay the night. Is it just me or is she making the dumbest argument? I just let it go and didn’t say shite but had me wondering if she legit thinks there is a difference between the two
