This. Sums it up pretty well. There is no set rules. Some say the ptech degree is a must, some don't. Knowing someone helps in certain situations, depending on the plants hiring protocol. Starting small to gain experience and then move on is the best advice.

Of course, if it's some podunk plant run with the good ole boy system and T-Boy made his way up to HR.
Go to the big names now where they don't care anymore who you know. It's changed tremendously.
As in Exxon, Dow, marathon, etc.? Because those all help if you know someone. I'm an operator with many friends from Ptec who got jobs at these named places because of their degree and that they knew someone there.

I know that a lot of plants are trying to push out the old boy mentality and these dumb engineer bosses want people to run the plant like their puppets. So go in there and tell the boss you will run it just like he wants it no matter what. They will prob hire you on the spot. 99.9% chance that the unit won't run.

Sign up at one of the local community colleges that offer the PTEC curriculum...Do well in that and the plants will find you instead of you chasing them..

Every plant I know of in the River Parishes view the P-Tech certificate as a "golden ticket".

I know a guy who just got hired at exxon with no ptec and no experience...pretty sure he knew someone important. But we are hiring right now...no experience necessary and a bachelors degree will get you an interview. Im not saying where i work on here lol but apply everywhere and maybe you'll get a call

Pretty much every plant is hiring right now with all the Baby Boomers retiring. Fixing to be a huge exit. Our company only hires from trade schools putting out p-tech certificates.

I work at one of those River Parish plants, and yea it does help some. Hell some plants even send you to a 2-week crash course after hiring.
FWIW, I'm one of probably 3 employees out of over 3,000 in this plant (excluding contractors) who didn't have connections working here.
