That obituary isn't well written. It is missing some words and there is a phrase after a period that starts with and.

It was likely written by a person or persons still in shock over the incident.

The mother did survive the children but I think the parents were divorced, hence no mention in LDIII's obituary. I could be wrong.

I thought the same, but thought the funeral home would help in proofing. It seemed sad that the mother of the children was not at least included. I assume her name is Karla because that name was included in some of the messages under the obit.

Juan Brown is a 777 pilot who has an youtube channel "blancolirio".
He does really good videos on aviation, etc. Here's his video for this crash.

I think that's the case, but the kids were in that same obit, so it seems harsh not to mention they were survived by their mother. As you say, it's poorly written in the first place. Sad all around.

I think there was more than just 20-30 seconds elapsed where they knew the plane was in trouble,

Imagine what was going through the father's mind knowing that two of his children were with him.

May they all RIP. Such a very sad story.

this is the true horror and tragedy of all of this, doc was in over his head but why take your kids' lives along with you? (rhetorical)

My private instructor hated Bonanzas and was the source of me hearing the "Doctor Killer" saying. They've had a bad reputation for a long time.

Competent professional pilots refer to doctors as Bonanza killers.

It's well known that doctors especially surgeons think everything is easy. This is why so many lose their financial arse when trying to run a business.

Doctors are, for the most part, narcissistic pricks.

once they get into the higher specialties, and especially surgeons, that’s true in general, the ego is what kills them, not the Bonanzas

Still sad. People die in car accidents all the time. We don't automatically assume they were jackasses. At least, I don't. I think there's a lot of class envy in this thread and it's ugly.

In case you missed this. Sad - but here's the reality check:

Doctor killer because it was a mass produced high performance airplane the was relative inexpensive.
Absolute amateurish, uninformed bullshite.

I’m certainly not envious, I’ve got a ton of flight experience, in everything from a jet that exceeds Mach twice to something that barely goes faster than my lawnmower, the guy should be able to indulge himself all he can afford but to take his kids out because they trusted him, and he thinks his medical proficiency translates and substitutes for aviation experience and proficiency is criminal

Let's just leave out the assumptions on all sides.

I apologize if my remark seemed to indicate you were envious, but the general tone that all Drs. tend to be narcissists and surgeons especially are this or that... Well. I think people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I'll just leave it at it's a sad accident and I'm not going to cast aspersions on someone that can't defend himself. Hindsight is 20/20.

all of the men on my dads side of the family are/were pilots except for me and my dad. Both of my dads brothers, two of my cousins, and my brother. Tens of thousands of hours of flight time among all of them.

And two of them died in plane crashes, both pilot error. Pilot error is far and away the most common cause of private aviation disasters. Cousin #1 crashed at the ocala airport trying to return to the runway after engine trouble, came in too slow and put it down. He should have continued on and landed in the grass. Cousin #2 put his plane in the woods outside the Hammond airport in a thunderstorm, he never should have taken off from houma

the loss to everyone who loved them has been incalculable

Dude laid it out pretty clearly that unfortunately the Dr was in a plane that exceeded his flying ability

I've nothing to be envious of. I've more specialized education than most physicians. My son is commercial pilot as are several friends.

I've personally heard more than surgeon refer to non surgeon doctors as glorified nurses. Surgeons often have no respect for doctors not willing to "hold life and death in their hands" Interestingly, every medical class divides itself on two sides of the lecture hall. One side, future surgeons and the other everyone else not planning to be a surgeon.

Yes, many surgeons have a God complex.

Was your cousin an insurance agent? If so, I knew him in college. Nice guy.
