Makes it even worse. A couple of 20-yr olds don't even know what they don't know. But someone with that much time under their belt know better. But ego and getting overconfident has led to the doom of many a ship and plane.

Well for starters you can look at ratings and deduce how much someone has driven- and then read comments about how safely they operate the vehicle etc…. Getting on a plane u do not have that luxury

I can't remember the last time I rode in a taxi. I always avoided them if I could.
As for Uber, yes, I vet them -- I look at their star rating. I'm not getting in an Uber with a low rated driver or someone who has hardly any reviews.

Controller tells them the weather is better south. Then later points out again that they on the edge of his airspace but they kept going north. Seems like they were being neither reactive or proactive. Just riding along. Really gotta wonder what the hell was going on.

it sounds like they were initially told the weather was moderate. Very soon after they were told about the extreme weather they requested to deviate.
