I typically just pay the bill without looking but Mrs. Donkeypunch has noticed these on delivery Pizza Bills over the last year or so.

Does this money go to the driver? If not what does the money go towards? The driver provides his own car and gas.

It goes toward the fact that they have to pay the drivers. It costs them money to deliver the pizza to you so they charge you for that service. Pretty simple.

This thread again.

Money does not go to the driver. Total money grab by the chain.

That said, drivers usually make minimum wage, so they don't really live on tips like servers do.

Kinda. It's like a fee you pay that indirectly covers the mileage for a delivery. The drivers get compensated for every trip they take, but it's essentially wear, tear, and fuel compensation. It's not a tip of any kind.

So I’m guessing that these people were slave labor before they started charging delivery fees? I do not remember ever seeing this until recently.

they say to hire drivers but if you are in the delivery business this is already a cost to do business. Seems now a scam as many think they must no longer tip as this charge has been added.

But but but do you tip on the total with the fee or just for the pizza. And what about the tax. I'd really feel more secure if someone could explain this weekly.

No, because then the driver would be an independent contractor and be due the delivery fee.

It is another money grab like a bank charging a fee for something they used to do without a fee. This adds greatly to their bottom lines but they are not giving the tellers any of that fee money.

Well PrivatePublic doesn't understand how tipped employees get paid.

I don't see a problem with it. You should pay more for delivery than you do for picking it up.

The drivers are paid a flat fee for every delivery. It may not come out of the delivery fee, but they're paid it nonetheless.

Is it? If it is I should totally ask for a discount when I eat in or pick up.

They pay the driver a wage. Do you not understand this? If not for deliveries, the driver position wouldn't be needed. Why should the people not using the drivers, and who instead go pick up themselves, pay for the costs of your delivery?

You aren't paying the delivery fee when you eat in or pick up.

The level of intellect on this board is staggering.

Did you miss the quote that I was responding too

the guy strongly implied the delivery cost was already factored into the cost of the pizza before the delivery fee, hence my reply. Did I misread his statement or the intent of your reply?
