Most dogs don't bite and hold like pits do. Most will nip but not hold.

Please name the breeds that can apply similar jaw pressure as pits.

Hell my rottweiler would bite, but that was when you provoked it. That didn't make him a bad dog. He was just responding like anyone else would. Not saying the kid or anyone else started it but don't expect to piss a dog off and everything be gravy. Pit bulls especially.

The pit is different though in that it combines the ability to actually kill a human with a hyper-aggressive and unpredictable nature.

Bottom line is when something like a beagle snaps, the worse that happens is maybe a stitch or two. When a pit snaps, people die.

My golden is great with children and would never bite. No reason for a normal person to own a pit.

Mastiffs, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and German Shepherds all have jaw pressures equal to or higher (in some cases, significantly higher) than a Pit Bull. I think the Pit may be 5th in that ranking actually.

As a whole was a key word in my statement.

I just don't believe any other term than emotional/mentally weak describes a person who spends thousands and invests a shitton of emotions in an animal that lives 9-12 years.

yeah, i'm not sure why the beagle is the point of comparison here.

but in all honesty, i'm ambivalent. you have enough trash breeding and abusing a breed of dog for long enough and this is what you end up with. but the solution isn't to outlaw them or commit genocide.

disclaimer: im not defendingp it bulls, im showing they are in the top 5 most dangerous dogs.

The top five domesticated breeds thought to have the strongest jaw are all large dogs known for their bite. They are generally the same breeds attributed with the highest rate of attacks on people, and they are often listed as dangerous dogs.

Pit Bull

The Pitbull has become a breed synonymous with strong jaws, biting and danger. While this dog does not have the highest bite force of the dogs National Geographic tested, it is one of the top four. The Pitbull bite was measured at 235 pounds of pressure. It is the most highly recognized breed for jaw and bite strength.
German Shepherd

Although the German Shepherd was originally bred as a herding dog, it has been used as a guard and police dog with good reason. This is a powerful and intelligent breed. The German Shepherd's bite measured 238 bite force, just slightly above the Pitbull.
Rottweiler

The Rottweiler, or Rottie as it is often called, has a huge head and large jaws. This breed bit with 328 pounds of pressure. The Rottweiler is considered the second most dangerous breed of dog; the Pitbull is number one.
Doberman

The Doberman is a highly energetic dog that can be very aggressive. The bite force is reputed to be 600 pounds of pressure; however that seems to be largely unsubstantiated.
Mastiff

Many breeders say that the Mastiff has the strongest jaw. Reportedly, the Mastiff has a bite force of 552 pounds. If true, this would make it stronger than any other domesticated dog on record.

Say we go outside and he's just over there minding his own business then we go mess with him. He gets angry and acts as if trying to defend something, but you know why? Because we went over there and go frick with him, not because we were chilling and he just decides to come up and growl at us or bite us.

That doesn't make him a great dog and it's probably why he didn't last long in my household. But are you seriously trying to compare a beagle to a pit? Pit bulls are energetic dogs with the intent to protect and defend. Some are bred to fight and you know where that gene comes from? Either the parents who were also fighters or tPOS who raised them to behave that way.

The real question is why have a Pit Bull that you know you can't control around your 4 year old kid.

Which may explain why so many of our presidents are morons. Maybe they should pass a law banning pet owners from running for office.

Look, I'm against pit bulls. But here's the real reason people should be too, whether you already are, or you aren't.

Pit bulls do not necessarily act differently than other dogs do. They can be loving, well behaved pets. But when something does happen, even if it's only one time in the dog's life, pit bulls do much more damage than other dogs, and therein lies the problem with the breed. It isn't that they hate babies, it's that when your child pokes your terrier in the eye, and that dog bites that child, it's not going to physically be able to maim the child. Pit Bulls, well, they can. So you have a much more dangerous situation whether the dog is well raised or not. Pit bulls are weapons, whether they love you or not, and they are territorial by nature, which is all you need to know, imeo.
