I have. They don't scare me. I've approached some used for fighting and protecting their litter. I've met dozens and dozens of pit bulls and have yet to meet a bad one. A bad pit bull is not an animal that needs to be messed with, but being a pit bull alone doesn't mean it has an aggressive nature.
That's all I really have to say about that. I have one and it's my world, but I am always aware that other people may be scared of it.. and dogs get really nervous when they feel people are getting nervous about them. I take extra responsibility that other people obviously don't.

Oh, I don't know.. maybe mention animal control or a bullet before actually using a bullet. It's in the past now. His kids are safe one way or the other. Moving on..

Sounds rabid honestly

Owning a pitbull seems like the single most careless thing a person could do. If the odds are even .5% that it might attack and kill someone it's not worth owning. Can you imagine if you've loved little Jasper for 7 years while he's being a perfect dog and then find him in your front hard with a child in his mouth?
That might be a little extreme but they kill people more than every other dog combined.

I'm shocked it took three shots to kill that damn dog! Were the police officers that bad of a shot (meaning not hitting it lethally the first, or even second time) or was that dog extraordinarily resilient and powerful?

There's a reason why you never see labs and goldens used as police dogs

No obviously you don't..people that don't own pits are the truly responsible ones!

There's a YouTube video of a pitbull attacking a horse. The horse had to stump on it several times before eventually the Pitbull gave up and laid on the ground dying. Not posting cause too graphic.

I just don't understand why you would own a pit bull if you have a family.

haven;t read the thread, but thought i'd add.
the mother of the child is a good friend with one of my employees. my employee happens to think that it isn't necessarily a pit bull thing. could have to do with the owner of the dogs. she's pretty shaken up about it. sad situation
apparently the step father or whoever breeds these dogs for show, so they are well trained and behaved. it would have to be assumed that something sparked the dog.

Sorry but you lack education if you think the whole breed needs to go. Do you not think a dog is a product of its enviroment the same way humans are? I understand as a parent you are concerned but be please be logical.
A 5 year old just got mauled by a pit, and we have ignorant people already trying to defend their actions. Pathetic to say the least. Just hush! It is a time for mourning another death of an innocent child. Defend the killer at another time. Like, never!

That is ignorant. Responsible is taking care of a pit bull responsibly. Breeding on the other hand is where the problem is. The world needs more people who can take care of pit bulls and less breeders.

also i agree with the people in this thread that pits can be good dogs. i had one for a while and she was a sweetheart.
the issue with them lies with the fact that when provoked they will do more damage than your typical dog due to bite strength and that they don't release.
fwiw its my understanding that labs tend to be just as aggressive and have just as bad a record for biting, however the damage done when biting is not as severe.

That's the ticket
They may be no more aggressive than a lab, but labs might draw blood, whereas a pitbull will rip an artery out

Male dogs are 6.2 times more likely to bite than female dogs, sexually intact dogs are 2.6 times more likely to bite than neutered dogs, and chained dogs are 2.8 times more likely to bite than unchained dogs.
