I have never been in a helicopter. If you get lost while flying at night, and you lose your awareness of altitude there’s no instruments telling you your altitude?
Without question the aircraft will alert the pilot the problem is the pilot will not believe the instruments if they are not experienced.
Watch the Air France disaster documentary. Pitot tubes froze.
You can feel as if you are going forward and everything is perfect while your stall alert etc. are going off.

Have there been any other reports on the cause of this accident? I didn't find anything, but perhaps some of our pilots have other access or know better where the look.
I looked at the maternal grandmother's FB page and she posts pictures or videos of the grandchild almost every day. It's sad, but her posts are amazingly upbeat for the most part.

There won’t be anything for likely 6-24 months. These final reports take awhile to close out.

I was googling to see if there were any updates. A Reddit thread popped up. Obviously, one of the wife's parents was posting in it. I suspect it's her mother because she posts on Facebook regularly about her daughter and granddaughter, though she never mentions the husband or cause of the crash. Not sure how she endured having their 3 funerals together.

It's so sad that the parent says Savant told his wife he was fully trained as a pilot. His wife didn't know he was still a student pilot.
We don't know yet whether pilot error was the or a cause of the accident, but regardless, I'd have to be praying to God to help me deal with the extreme anger I'd have toward Savant.

This story has unfolded in literally the worst possible way. The only thing worse would be alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.
So he flew illegally, lied to his wife while flying his young daughter. I just cant imagine being this irresponsible even when I was heavily drinking.
Some people, unfortunately, are stupid. You can think they are smart all you want because they know one or two things really well but they are really stupid.

Just before 6:30, Savant landed in a field near Pat’s of Henderson, a restaurant in Lake Charles.
What? Pat's is Henderson not Lake Charles.

Best restaurant in Lake Charles right now, outside of Mazens.

I'm a little obsessed at getting answers to this.
They appeared to be pretty strict Pentecostals, so I'm thinking alcohol wasn't a factor, plus I can't imagine that his wife would allow him to fly her and their child after having been drinking.
However, I'm surprised she got into that copter with her child to fly at night to a restaurant that was a short drive away. She obviously was not educated on the pilot requirements and trusted her husband.
This was a post on the Reddit thread:
"The man that pulled them out was watching them. Said the engine made a noise. Chopper turned towards a security light by the highway to attempt to land but then the engine totally went out and it went into free fall.
The anual had just been completed."
I don't recall reading any witness accounts, but maybe there was some I don't recall.
I can't fathom that he flew them knowing he was not licensed to do so. It's so hard to understand him doing that. Big headed I guess.
His wife was an only child and the child was the only grandchild. You can tell by the mother's posts on Facebook how absolutely wrapped up in each other's lives they were and how brutal these losses are.

I highly doubt alcohol has anything to do with this.
Jury is still out on mechanical issue but it’s not improbable.
Even if so, the guy still demonstrated an unforgivable level of incompetence and stupidity.

Wife and daughter are in one cemetery and husband is in a cemetery 25 miles away. This terrible situation has devastated many people in the area.

Probably doesn’t, it’s just the only thing that could make this worse.
