Betty Virginia Park in Shreveport, had a similar rocket slide back in the 70s, maybe longer.
Yes it did and yes it was there in the 60s. The Park also had this open ended barrel parallel to the ground you could get inside that spun around. When ever us little kids got inside teenagers would come over and start it spinning as fast it could go. If you were lucky the centrifugal force would pin you against the barrel wall. If you weren't lucky you flew out one of the ends and there were no soft landings. I really don't understand how we survived at times

I cant help but wonder if they made them pull up and wait on their order, defeating the purpose of the design to begin with.

One of my earliest childhood memories though is when it would come on, I’d run into the kitchen to hide because the intro scared me.
I was fine with the intro. I just didn't like the Bigfoot connection. That totally freaked me out as a six-to-eight-year-old. I had more nightmares about Bigfoot than anyone I know (and still do occasionally thanks to that show). My little brother was terrified of the Venus probe that terrorized everyone when it failed to get launched properly and fell back to Earth to run its protocol. My sister and I made a tape recording (yes, on an old cassette tape with the mic right up against the speaker on the TV) and we would play it at night right outside Stu's bedroom door just to put him into a fear driven state of paralysis.
I'm sooooo glad he's a preacher now and hasn't decided to get back at the two of us older siblings for the evil crap we did to him when we were kids.

It was there in the 70s. Anytime we visited Shreveport I would beg my dad to take me there.

If I am not mistaken, they installed the drive thru because people working at the army base nearby (and soldiers) needed faster through-put times for lunch pickups. It worked so well that they started rolling the idea out at other locations.
Maybe it's just me in my grump old age, but I don't think McDonalds is half the restaurant it used to be. Used to love going to McDonalds in the 70's and 80's. Today, only if I am desperate - there are much better choices out there IMHO for the same or less money. And get that *@%@#$ ice cream machine fixed! (#alllocations)

Maybe some of you who grew up as kids in the 1970's will recognize this aeronautical vehicle and the intro to the TV show it appeared on.
