don't know about buddies, but 70's as well as 80's if he was he was working outside, that was his uniform. (born 1936)

Had an aunt that absolutely refused to believe he was gay, even when I recognized it before age 10.

She also didn't believe her own brother was gay even though he and his "good friend" lived together, slept in the same bed and were rarely seen in the company of a woman that wasn't a family member.
