Here is a dramatic photographic record of the pride and dignity of the colored family in the Jim Crowe era. These people demonstrated a strength of spirit, personal pride, and dignity no longer available in most of our communities.
A demonstration of personal pride was the driving force beneath most of the pictures. This was a time when, although subject to persecution, these people wanted to show the world the that they too could accomplish much and live with pride and dignity. "He documented the everyday life of those communities and took photographs that showed the subjects as dignified and ennobled citizens."

I have no clue why you got a downvote as the first vote. That was rather enjoyable and enlightening. Seeing pride and hope in their eyes is so much better and more inspiring than seeing drug-glazed eyes, hatred, envy, and a sense of entitlement.
The people in these photos strove to improve their lot in life, they worked hard, and they emulated those whom they saw as successful. There's a sense of contentment and general happiness in all of those photos.
I suppose that our nation lost its soul when we ceased to work hard and labor to improve ourselves, when we stopped looking upon morality and self-restraint as good traits, and when we ceased seeking God.
Now, instead of working to overcome difficulty, we blame society and successful individuals for our own shortcomings, and rather than try to lift ourselves up we make it our singular duty to bring others down. Rather than focus upon personal growth, mentally, physically, and spiritually, we have turned our attention and desires to emulating the lowest common denominator of our society.
Thanks for the post, Observer. It was most pleasant and enjoyable.

Ah back when ads meant to pull at your heartstrings were still not politically correct

I was one of six who downvoted it, and downvoted it not because of the CONTENT--which was admirable-- but because of the FORMAT.
