I had a friend with an old BSA. He always made a point to tell you that it actually stood for Bastard Stopped Again.
I had one and that is what I always said the BSA stood for with its quirky electric parts that would fail at the most inopportune times. Same with many of the early Triumphs and their Zener diodes going bad
My ‘69 Triumph Bonneville would burn out the zener diode about every 4 months. Bought one from RadioShack for a tenth of the price and never had to change it again. Lucas electrical parts were very hit or miss, quality control sucked.

There are 2 constants in having recreational vehicles.
1. They are going to cost a good bit up-front to buy.
2. They are going to cost a lot more in upkeep.
I've been on motorcycles for 53 years now and with good tires costing over $200 each and being lucky to get 10K miles out of a back tire and about 20K miles out of the front, it adds up. Then with ANY part on the bike you'll find it costing 5x more than similar parts on cars.
I never got into boats-----thank goodness, but I have been around them for most of my life and know how much they cost to buy and maintain.

1949 Haitian Travel Poster. Now the airline travel posters say, "Get out of Haiti. 2 hours to Miami."

Dan Blocker and his wife, Dolphia. All the Boomer kids mourned his premature death at age 43.

Same thing when George Reeves was found dead in his home in 1959 and my then 6 yr. old mind couldn't fathom how "Superman" could be dead.
I was 19 when Dan Blocker died in 72 but by then I knew death wasn't age discriminatory. My own dad, age 35, who was wiry thin and in much better physical condition had died when I was just 8 years old back in 61.
