Sadly the classic flat top is all but dead. When I was in the army in the 80s and early 90s, and even for several years after coming off active duty, I wore a flat top. Got my haircut every Saturday morning. But by the late 90s my old barber had died and it was hard to find a barber who still did flat tops. From what I have been told by multiple barbers is very few of them can still do one.

When I came off active duty I was in the Alabama Army Guard for several more years so I still had to keep a short haircut. I wore a flat top for a few years before going to a high & tight.

I have really straight, thick hair and it grows super fast. When I wore a flat top and later an high & tight, I had to get my haircut weekly or my head would look like an Chia Pet.

Even into my 50s it’s still like this. So I have to either keep my hair really short, like no guard on the sides, or pretty long. Anything in between and it just wants to stand up.

I'm sure you are cool, man... it was just something I heard in a song where a guy's whining about his boss and his boss's haircut

My pop took me to the same barber shop he went to as a kid throughout the 90's. Same old man had been running it for nearly 60 years. I was required to have a flattop/GI until I turned 13...then it became the dreaded frat swoop.

Oh hell. I’d forgot about that song. Johnny Paycheck’s “Take this Job and Shove it”, right?

Hélène Arpels (here in 1939) was a French model, the wife of jeweler Louis Arpels. She was known for her catch phrase "Diamonds go with everything."
