Those brown paper bags were lunch bags, garbage bags, fried chicken grease absorbing paper, book covers, and Saints fan headwear.

I've always wondered if my grandfather is in the crowd since he was working there at that time.

That looks like a family picture of a mentally handicap family. I hate to say it but that is one ugly family. I hope that they never reproduced. Something is definitely wrong with the woman and those kids.

I used to love watching the Buckskin Bill show - I can't find any episodes on Youtube unfortunately.

I had Bill for a couple of broadcast classes at LSU in the early 80s. Nice guy. He made the classes even more fun than I expected.

Grand Opening of Abdalla's. Probably 1926 but I can't find this photo in newspapers. Abdalla's expanded many times. It was in Washington where he started his business as a 'cart peddler' traveling the area selling clothing and other merchandise." Source: Daily World / Photo credit: Facebook post

Who knew rice could be so fun?
The reason that year's festival is so well documented is a Farm Security Administration photographer showed up.

Thanks KAFKA. Beautiful photos and great quality for 1938.
I'm amazed to see how far we've come in 82 years. Seeing how people dressed and buildings surrounding the festival, is very entertaining. I'm sure that probably by now the youngest kid of that crowd passed away.
